John and Cynthia Hardy began Green School in 2006 with the hope of creating the “change-makers” of the future. They wanted their children to attend a school with a vision of a holistic learning community. Compelled to take up the environmental call to action, they set out to create a school that educates for sustainability. A collaborative effort opened the first of its kind – Green School Bali in September of 2008. 

Green School Tulum 

Now, joining the schools in New Zealand and South Africa, the fourth school is also being built in Tulum. Green School Tulum will open its doors in Fall 2021. Located in the heart of Aldea Zama, the Selvazama community is a holistic residential project within the lush jungle of Tulum. Situated only a few miles from the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean and the pristine beaches of the Riviera Maya. Green School Tulum will follow the mission of creating a global community of learners making our world more sustainable.

The philosophy of a student-guided approach encourages students to become critical thinkers who can innovate and create an impact in a world that requires us to reconcile our humanity with the natural order. 

Furthermore, the building will utilize low impact materials and will incorporate bamboo and locally sourced woods and materials, as well as permaculture principles into its operation and design. It is also the hope that the Green School’s example will inspire other schools in Mexico.

Selvazama
