One of the key things to keep in mind when you are moving to the Riviera Maya is the proximity of services and amenities that will be within close reach of your home. These include supermarkets<\/a>, restaurants, and of course hospitals. Noone wants to get ill or have an accident, and worse when they are far for adequate care. That\u00c2\u00b4s why I\u00c2\u00b4m happy to announce that the\u00c2\u00a0COSTAMED Medical Group<\/strong>, one of the leading healthcare systems in the region, has just opened a fourth location in Tulum on April 15.<\/p>\n

Costamed\u00c2\u00b4s\u00c2\u00a0first facility was in Cozumel in 1997, followed by one in Playa a few years later. Despite starting\u00c2\u00a0small they\u00c2\u00a0have grown and are now quite specialized, with a variety of technologically advanced medical equipment at their disposal. In Cozumel, for example, they have a completely automatized laboratory, state-of-the-art equipment, and a hyperbaric chamber. Their Playa del carmen location has\u00c2\u00a0similar facilities, as does the one in Mahahual.<\/p>\n

The Tulum facility which just opened includes general surgery, gastroenterology, OB\/Gyn, trauma, orthopedics, pediatrics, anesthesiology and nutrition. They have an emergency room, operating rooms, a maternity ward, as well as medical imaging (Xrays, CAT scans, and ultrasound).<\/span><\/p>\n

For those of you who are not Spanish speakers you can rest assured that they have English language support at the hospital, integrating native English speakers in to their\u00c2\u00a0staff to form a team called Patient Services (Atenci\u00c3\u00b3n a Pacientes). Foreigners are followed them throughout the entire process, and they notify their family wherever they are in the world. They work 24 hours a day while the patient is there, doing things such as\u00c2\u00a0arranging flights, communicating with\u00c2\u00a0embassies, and getting patients their medical information in their own language.<\/span><\/p>\n
