The summer of 2016 is proving to be a great<\/strong> one for tourism in Mexico, which is all part of the recent boom that the country has seen this year.<\/p>\n

There are many places to go in Mexico to spend your vacation, but for Mexican nationals the preferred destination has become the Riviera Maya<\/a>, despite strong competition from Cancun <\/a>and Los Cabos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These statistics come from the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels, who are claiming a hotel occupancy rate of 89 percent, compared to Cancun\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 82 percent. Both of these numbers exceed the national average.<\/p>\n

Despite being only half way through the year, it shows signs of exceeding previous records, so let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s take a look at what people in the industry here are saying about the current state of tourist occupation.<\/p>\n

The website riviera-maya-news.com <\/em><\/a>recently spoke to Rafael Garc\u00c3\u00ada, president of the Mexican Hotel Association, who said that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the best-known beaches<\/a> in the country are full. Colonial cities are being visited by hundreds of foreigners and thousands of Mexicans, and adventure tourism is booming.<\/em><\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

David Rebolledo, general manager of Best Day, says that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the exchange rate favors domestic destinatio<\/a>ns<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and although the peso lost value against the dollar \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Americans find it easier to take a flight to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n

Sipse.com<\/em> spoke with Dario Flota Ocampo, Director of the Agency of Promotion, who points out that “The two most important markets we have here this summer are United States and Mexico\u00e2\u20ac\u009d but added that during the high season that we have right now in Riviera Maya, Mexican nationals account for half of the occupation.<\/p>\n

That season is now drawing to a close within a week or so due to children going back to school in late August, but it will give way to the season of European tourism.<\/p>\n

Last year, the International Tourism Organization ranked Mexico as ninth in the world for its attractive tourism<\/strong>. This is the third consecutive year that the Riviera Maya has grown in global popularity and we still have almost half of 2016 left to go.<\/p>\n

Although the statistics are similar to those of last year it is important to take note that there are at least a thousand more rooms available for occupation. This represents an increase in tourist that will be noticeable when statistics are compiled for the third quarter of the year.<\/p>\n
