When the idea of moving to Mexico first pops in your mind, the first thing you do is to look over the internet for stories of other expats and start asking around how they did the move. When it comes to being an expat everyone has a different story, and the reasons behind moving to Mexico really go beyond retirement: some came here running away from the cold winters, and others because they found love. Somebody else found out that he could have a better lifestyle with his pension in Mexico, while another one was traveling when suddenly he felt at home\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 and so on. So, in your process of becoming an expat, the first question you should ask yourself is why you want to move to Mexico.<\/p>\n

Recently we met Anthony Scopel, who has fallen in love with Playa del Carmen<\/a> and is in that process of thinking about retiring in this town. He explained in a short interview the reasons why\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 Check it out!<\/p>\n

Anthony and his new wife Maureen discovered Playa del Carmen while spending their wedding week on the neighboring island of Cozumel<\/a>. They immediately fell in love with the beautiful turquoise water, the people and their traditional way of life, and the charm that Playa del Carmen possesses. Anthony said he was hooked. They kept returning every three to four months for several years knowing that one day they would return for more than just a short stay.<\/p>\n

After becoming an experienced travel writer and photographer, Anthony and his wife spent time touring and backpacking through Latin America. They also took the time to explore several Caribbean Islands as well. But every place they went they would end up comparing notes with Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya. Even when they visited other regions of Mexico, their memorable times always took them back to the Yucatan Peninsula.<\/p>\n

When an opportunity came along for Anthony to take a writing assignment hosted by You, Me and The Dock travel site<\/a>, they jumped at the offer. Anthony and Maureen established a new home that fulfilled a longtime dream of theirs. Once the assignment ended and it was time to go back to the states, a decision was made to return one day and hopefully for good. Anthony is making plans to look at purchasing property that will accommodate enough room for family and friends to come and visit.
