With the sacrifice of Allende, this city became an important epicenter for Mexican Independence day. On September 16th, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo cried out what Mexicans call ‘El Grito’. For Mexicans to assert their independence against the Spanish and the local elites. In ‘El Grito,’ he specifically refers to Allende, amongst a few others. The Mayor of the city chants El Grito during the night of the 15th to celebrate independence and Mexico as an independent country.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
