For a growing number of people, car-free simply means more relaxation. (Of course, if you want, or you’ve had your fill of exercise for the day, taxis are always cheap.)

Fresh, Natural Food, Low-Priced. The whole problem with healthy food being overpriced is not a problem in Mexico. A large variety of fresh fruit and vegetables are available all year round. Freshly caught seafood is likewise very common, especially in the beachfront communities. Again, all of this is available at prices surprisingly low compared to what you’re used to.

Activities. Golfing, swimming, biking, camping, jogging, soccer, baseball, and many other physical activities are available for retirees. (Of course, there are many non-physical activities too!) Most offer large savings on the same activities back home, and many simply don’t have a cost, other than the time to get there. Again, the warm weather makes all of this easier all year.

Affordable Gym Memberships. With all of this, you probably won’t even think about the gym. But if for some reason a gym is more convenient, they are frequent and easy to get to.  Many condo complexes offer a gym which is included in the monthly fee.

With all of this, you’ll never need to complain that living healthy costs to much; in fact, it might be more correct to say, you can’t afford NOT to live healthy – you can’t afford NOT to retire in Mexico!

Thomas Lloyd graduated from Purdue University Krannert School of Management with a degree in Management/Financial Option Investments.
