I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m always amazed when our friends and family in the U.S. ask us what we do in Mexico about health care.\u00c2\u00a0 Most assume that we return to the States every time we need a medical check-up or dental exam.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s quite the contrary.\u00c2\u00a0 We find the medical and dental care in our Playa del Carmen real estate<\/a> region to be state of the art, and at prices that are considerably below our insurance deductibles for the same services in the US.\u00c2\u00a0 The facilities we choose to use in Playa del Carmen are private facilities, although public facilities are available at a much lower cost.<\/p>\n

\"\"The second time I went to see my doctor, when we entered her office she came around from her desk and gave me and Bob each a big hug and a warm hello.\u00c2\u00a0 After inviting us to sit down, she pulled my medical records up on her desk computer and began to ask us a few questions.\u00c2\u00a0 First, how am I feeling and have we had any interesting recent trips or experiences.\u00c2\u00a0 In other words, how is my life?\u00c2\u00a0 I answered and then asked her about her family, and she shared with us a bit of who she is outside the white lab coat.\u00c2\u00a0 She then invited me in for my exam.\u00c2\u00a0 Before each step she told me what she was going to do, and why she does this.\u00c2\u00a0 She shared her findings with me, and invited me\u00c2\u00a0 to\u00c2\u00a0 hear for myself the beat of my heart, or see for myself the ultrasound (just routine since I have a family history) while she pointed out what I was looking at and what it meant.\u00c2\u00a0 Then she came back to her desk where she completed the report of her findings \u00e2\u20ac\u201c now available for me to take with me \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and asked that I come in the next day so that they can get a fasting blood sample.\u00c2\u00a0 At that point, she gave us her personal cell phone number to call should either of us have any questions that may have slipped our mind.\u00c2\u00a0 She stepped around the desk and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hugs and kisses good-bye until she gets my lab work.\u00c2\u00a0 Total time 45 minutes, most of that spent with my physician one-on-one.<\/p>\n

\"\"The next morning the lab attendant was ready for me when I walked in.\u00c2\u00a0 No pain, these folks know exactly what they are doing every step of the way.\u00c2\u00a0 Ten minutes from arrival, I am on my way out when we ran into my good doctor, who insisted that we come to see her new baby.\u00c2\u00a0 Again, hugs and kisses are exchanged, and I am left with the feeling that I have a good friend who is looking out for my best health, and not just someone who sees me simply as a lab specimen, an 8 minute exam and subsequent billing.\u00c2\u00a0 My lab report was ready the same afternoon at 4 pm, and a copy was provided me as well as entered into the computer for my physician.<\/p>\n

A day or so later I had my next appointment (set up for my convenience) and again we have my physician\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s warm greetings and full attention for 30 minutes as she went over all aspects of the blood work.\u00c2\u00a0 Her diagnosis and recommendations \u00e2\u20ac\u201c I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m in good shape, keep taking care of myself, and go back to having fun playing and selling more Mexico golf real estate<\/a>!<\/p>\n

And what is the cost for this care?\u00c2\u00a0 About $100 US for all my doctor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s time and lab work.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh, the personal caring and the respect for me and my family \u00e2\u20ac\u201c That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s on the house!<\/p>\n
