{"id":4859,"date":"2012-07-20T11:57:29","date_gmt":"2012-07-20T17:57:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/temp-blog\/?p=4859"},"modified":"2013-05-24T16:08:48","modified_gmt":"2013-05-24T22:08:48","slug":"colonial-mexico-real-estate-san-luis-potosi-to-host-2nd-symposium-for-historic-city-centers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/colonial-mexico-real-estate-san-luis-potosi-to-host-2nd-symposium-for-historic-city-centers\/","title":{"rendered":"Colonial Mexico Real Estate \u00e2\u20ac\u201c San Luis Potosi to Host 2nd Symposium for Historic City Centers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, I saw this poster for the 2nd Symposium for Historic City Centers, to be held in San Luis Potosi this August:<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 464px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"AMPI Centros Historicos Symposium\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/AMPI\/centros-historicos.jpg\" alt=\"San Luis Potosi, Mexico\" width=\"464\" height=\"606\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">upcoming symposium on colonial city centers in San Luis Potosi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know if I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be able to make it, but I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m definitely excited about this event.\u00c2\u00a0 It strikes home with me for a couple of reasons, both personal and professional, about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mexico real estate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First of all, I have some good memories from this city.\u00c2\u00a0 A few years back, I spent a lot of time in San Luis Potosi with a good buddy from Wisconsin. I would go up and play Frisbee against him; we took part in several tournaments.\u00c2\u00a0 There were teams from Mexico City and Guadalajara.\u00c2\u00a0 My sister-in-law also lived there for 10 years, so we made several trips on weekends to go visit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"San Luis Potosi\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/8\/8e\/Plaza_de_san_franciscoBUENA_CALIDAD.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">San Luis Potosi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>San Luis Potosi is also a very beautiful colonial city. Having spent a bunch of time there, I can say with confidence that downtown is very, very cool!\u00c2\u00a0 Nearby is also <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Real_de_Catorce\">Real del Catorce<\/a><\/span>, a nearly abandoned (but very mystical) silver mining town with spectacular views of desert hills, known for the shamans of the local Huichol people, and a miracle-producing image of St. Francis of Assisi.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colonial Real Estate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Symposium is also exciting because it is focusing on real estate in historic city centers in Mexico.\u00c2\u00a0 A handful of such places have already caught on with Americans and Canadians, such as Merida (Mexico\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s second largest colonial city center, popular for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/yucatan-real-estate\/homes-yucatan.php\">Yucatan homes for sale<\/a> in the southeast of Mexico,) and San Miguel de Allende, which is in the same general central highland region of Mexico as San Luis Potosi (perhaps about 4 hours away.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 432px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/yucatan-real-estate\/homes-yucatan.php\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" title=\"Merida, Yucatan\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/a\/aa\/Casa_merida.jpg\/800px-Casa_merida.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"432\" height=\"271\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">a colonial home in Merida<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>However, this is a real estate and community style that I can really see taking off to a greater extent with Americans and Canadians over the next few years.\u00c2\u00a0 Mexico\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s thriving economy (which is in the world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s top 10, the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153trillion dollar class,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and still going strong) and the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ever growing middle class are putting considerable funds into the hands of people who are interested in fixing up homes and opening up good businesses in old colonial downtowns.\u00c2\u00a0 Gentrification of many of these areas is already well underway; the colonial areas are being beautified, restaurants, galleries, cafes, etc. are opening, and modern services like supermarkets, movie theaters and good hospitals are showing up.\u00c2\u00a0 Events like this Symposium are excellent promotion and support.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 431px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/morelia-real-estate\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" title=\"Morelia, Mexico\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/7\/7a\/Jardin_de_las_rosas.JPG\/799px-Jardin_de_las_rosas.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"323\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Morelia&#39;s colonial city center<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The nice thing is that even after gentrification, real estate prices in these colonial city centers are still very low, as is the cost of living, since the main market is still mostly national.\u00c2\u00a0 Yet, this provides a perfect opportunity for Americans and Canadians to enjoy life at a low cost in a very nice place with the added touch of Mexico\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s old charm at its best.\u00c2\u00a0 Examples of places that are just at this stage of having been gentrified but not yet discovered on an international scale include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/morelia-real-estate\/\">Morelia real estate<\/a> (also in the central interior) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/campeche-real-estate\">Campeche real estate<\/a> on the Yucatan Peninsula.
