{"id":4988,"date":"2012-08-23T11:16:10","date_gmt":"2012-08-23T17:16:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/temp-blog\/?p=4988"},"modified":"2017-08-28T16:44:22","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T21:44:22","slug":"mexico-real-estate-mexico-maligned-terry-denton-sets-the-story-of-safety-in-mexico-straight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/mexico-real-estate-mexico-maligned-terry-denton-sets-the-story-of-safety-in-mexico-straight\/","title":{"rendered":"Mexico Real Estate &#8211; &#8220;Mexico Maligned&#8221; &#038; Mexico Defended; Terry Denton Sets the Story of Safety in Mexico Straight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most common hesitations that future\u00c2\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/\">Mexico real estate<\/a><\/span> buyers have is that of security.\u00c2\u00a0 With, the way much of the media portrays Mexico, this is not surprising.\u00c2\u00a0 As I have often pointed out, this image is far from the reality of living in Mexico.\u00c2\u00a0 The good news is that the word is spreading; those who have lived in Mexico for years on end, and those who have traveled to this beautiful country dozens of times are now speaking up and sharing the reality of their experience, ensuring that the truth is known.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s part of a wonderful post from Terry Denton&#8217; Blog, <em><strong>Travel by Terry<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>THE THREE METRICS THAT MATTER\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s turn our attention to three\u00c2\u00a0practical metrics you can use for measuring the safety of\u00c2\u00a0Mexico.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Metric\u00c2\u00a0One:\u00c2\u00a0 Geography<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allow me to share\u00c2\u00a0a couple of realities that seldom\u00c2\u00a0get mentioned by the media.\u00c2\u00a0 The first is the fact that the vast majority of the security problems in Mexico are restricted to towns along the border and a few other scattered sites.\u00c2\u00a0 It is worth noting that Mexico has over 2500 municipalities and security problems have been concentrated in just 18 of them.\u00c2\u00a0 You probably won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t run across this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationmaster.com\/compare\/Mexico\/United-States\/Crime\">embarrassing little jewel<\/a> either, embarrassing to the US that is.\u00c2\u00a0 It almost makes you question the wisdom of staying at home!<\/p>\n<p>The second fact rarely discussed is the immense size of Mexico (roughly the size of Western Europe) and the distances between historical hot spots and resort cities.\u00c2\u00a0Take a look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/magicofmexico-updates.com\/mexico-maps\/mexico-border-map\/\">map<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0below. You may be surprised\u00c2\u00a0to discover that it is roughly 1000 miles from Juarez to Cancun and almost 800 miles from Tijuana to Cabo\u00c2\u00a0San Lucas.\u00c2\u00a0 The white line is meant to suggest how head-scratchingly\u00c2\u00a0strange we here in the US would find it if a potential visitor from a foreign country shared with us that he was apprehensive about visiting San Diego because he had heard of a recent ugly incident in New Orleans.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_468\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/magicofmexico-updates.com\/mexico-maps\/mexico-border-map\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Mexico Security Map\" src=\"http:\/\/travelbyterry.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/mexico-security-map.gif?w=584\" alt=\"Map of Mexico\" width=\"465\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a>Map showing relative distances in Mexico<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Metric\u00c2\u00a0Two:\u00c2\u00a0 Statistics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are a few interesting facts you probably have not heard in the media:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The Mexican Ministry of Tourism revealed that 2011 was a record-breaking year for tourism with. <strong>23.4 million international travelers<\/strong> visiting Mexico in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The Mexican Ministry of Tourism announced that 4.99 million international tourists visited Mexico between January-April 2012, representing an increase of 5.3 percent compared to the same period in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Mexico is currently rated 10<sup>th<\/sup>\u00c2\u00a0in the world\u00c2\u00a0rankings for most international visitors\u00c2\u00a0and has publicly set a goal to be in the top 5 by 2018.<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 There are currently <strong>no<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0US travel advisories in place for popular tourist destinations like Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya and Tulum, the Riviera Nayarit, Cabo\u00c2\u00a0San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and San Miguel de Allende, Leon or even Mexico City.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Metric\u00c2\u00a0Three:\u00c2\u00a0 Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you were to ask me the number one reason I believe Mexico is safe I would say it is based on my own personal experience.\u00c2\u00a0 I have been traveling there for over 25 years, multiple times many years, without ever once being threatened or harassed.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0My story is but one of millions as the statistics above corroborate.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to hear some real stories from real people talking about the real Mexico, just visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitmexico.com\/en-us\/our-stories\"><strong>Mexico Taxi Project<\/strong><\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 These are unscripted comments from consumers just like you on their way home from the airport upon\u00c2\u00a0returning to the US.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 OK, there may be a couple of folks in those clips still\u00c2\u00a0feeling the negative effects of over-indulgence but hey, hangovers don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t reach the threat threshold set for this blog post.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/travelbyterry.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/23\/mexico-maligned\/www.travelleaders.com\/fortworthtx\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Teatro Jua\u00c3\u00bcrez in Guanajuato City\" src=\"http:\/\/travelbyterry.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/teatro-juac3bcrez-in-guanajuato-city.jpg?w=584&amp;h=389\" alt=\"Teatro Jua\u00c3\u00bcrez in Guanajuato City, Mexico\" width=\"465\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Traveling to Mexico is safe!
