Today I will look at one of Mexico\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s cultural features many people fall in love with even before they know the country: food and drink.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Food<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 201px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" title=\"Enchiladas\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/Food%20-%20Mexican%20Traditional\/enmoladas_zpsc17b1960.jpg\" alt=\"Enmoladas\" width=\"201\" height=\"201\" border=\"0\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Enchiladas with 3 different sauces<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Most Americans and Canadians will know about tacos and enchiladas.\u00c2\u00a0 Yet, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s incredible how many ways Mexicans can find to wrap meat with a tortilla \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and, yes, you will soon begin to notice the difference and have preferences.\u00c2\u00a0 Some may have heard of the dark, rich sauce known as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153mole,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (pronounced \u00e2\u20ac\u0153mo-lay\u00e2\u20ac\u009d) but may not know that there are several dozen variations of it, including black, brown, red, orange and green varieties (due to different ingredients.)<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/Food%20-%20Mexican%20Traditional\/moleandchicken.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"203\" height=\"140\" border=\"0\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Traditional Mole with Chicken<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There is also very strong variation between regions; in northern Mexico, they like lots of charbroiled beef, while in the south (in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/yucatan-real-estate\/\">Yucatan real <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/yucatan-real-estate\/\">estate<\/a> area) you get distinct regional dishes like \u00e2\u20ac\u0153papadzules,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d similar to enchiladas but filled with eggs and topped with a sauce made of pumpkin seeds.\u00c2\u00a0 Despite the fact that we know Mexican food as one kind of food, depending on the region you choose to live in, they may not recognize any of the foods you know of. (In case you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re wondering, Mexican culture is not very vegetarian, but there are usually good meet-free dishes available even in the most carnivorous of taco shops.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/Food%20-%20Mexican%20Traditional\/?action=view&amp;current=PandeMuertos.gif\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" title=\"Bread for Day of the Dead\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/Food%20-%20Mexican%20Traditional\/PandeMuertos.gif\" alt=\"Pan de Muerto\" width=\"200\" height=\"139\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Special Bread for All Saints Day<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mexican food also has many healthy options; as mentioned earlier in this kit, roadside stands sell fruit bowls, and there are excellent smoothie shops everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liquor<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Tequila, Mexico\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/4\/46\/Agave_fields_mountain.jpg\/200px-Agave_fields_mountain.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The countryside area of Tequila, where the liquor originated<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tequila is fairly universal, but liquor in Mexico, as in Europe, has traditionally been a regional item.\u00c2\u00a0 A stronger, tequila-like drink called Mescal is available in many parts of the country, but is usually made in Oaxaca on the south part of the Pacific.\u00c2\u00a0 (Tequila itself comes from a village named \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Tequila\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the state of Jalisco, where Guadalajara and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/puertovallarta-real-estate\/\">Puerto Vallarta real estate<\/a> area are also located.) The Mayan areas of the Yucatan Peninsula take pride in their local anise liquors.\u00c2\u00a0 Mexicans also love their beer; yes, they do drink Corona and Sol!
