As many people will know, today, Dec. 21, 2012, is the end of the ancient Mayan calendar.\u00c2\u00a0 What does this mean for\u00c2\u00a0Mexico real estate<\/a>?\u00c2\u00a0 Other than the increase in international visitors to Mayan sites, I have an idea of my own.<\/p>\n

While some people have been worried about this meaning some drastic, end-of-the-world (or at least end-of-civilization) change, the Mayan perspective seems to be that it’s the simply the end of an era.<\/p>\n

The good news: the end of an old era means the beginning of a new one!<\/p>\n

It’s hard to say exactly what the beginning of a new era means, but in any case, it seems to be a good thing.<\/p>\n

While I thought about this topic, I made a connection that may not be related, but it’s worth throwing out there.<\/p>\n

Mexico’s Time to Shine!<\/strong><\/p>\n

My prediction is that the new era will be, perhaps among other things, Mexico’s time to shine.<\/p>\n

We already see experts saying that Mexico’s economy will probably outstrip Brazil’s within the decade. (Brazil is currently considered Latin America’s economic superpower, but Mexico is a strong second and has been advancing in bounds and leaps over the past decade or so, showing good potential not only to catch up, but even pass.)<\/p>\n

Some experts are even calling Mexico “the new China” with conditions for manufacturing, exporting and investment now in many ways favorable in Mexico. (See Mexico Could Be the New China<\/a>, for example.)<\/p>\n

Anyone who has lived in or traveled to Mexico recently will know that the country is home to an increasing number of international stores, modern shopping malls, well-connected international airports, state of the art hospitals and many other such items. Cancun real estate<\/a> is a shining example, but the number of cities and towns that now offer modern services is simply getting too long to list.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Mexico’s traditions have been extremely well preserved and continue to live as a part of day to day life of its people.\u00c2\u00a0 Many can be enjoyed by visitors or expats who live in the country, and are being given large-scale and even international exposure while still retaining their heavily local character. (See our Let’s Retire in Mexico<\/a> blog for some great examples!)<\/p>\n

Tourism is also taking off in Mexico.\u00c2\u00a0 It is currently #8 in the world for international tourism, and the government has implemented a plan to be among the top 5 by 2018.\u00c2\u00a0 This, along with the economic growth in manufacturing, means all the items listed above will only get better.<\/p>\n

And what about Mexico’s problem with drug-related violence? First of all, although the problem is real, and has plagued pockets within the country, anyone who reviews the stats will see that the problem is not as big as many media sources imply.\u00c2\u00a0 Secondly, anyone who has visited or lived here will confirm that the vast majority of the country is quite safe, and some parts (like the\u00c2\u00a0Merida real estate<\/a> or Playa del Carmen real estate<\/a> areas) are even safer than many parts of the U.S.\u00c2\u00a0 Experts such as Andrew Selee are also saying that the government’s current strategy is paying off, although the results are not very visible yet.<\/p>\n

Everything seems to point to a new era of prosperity and economic advances for the country.<\/p>\n

It’s easy to see how this is going to be a good thing for Mexico real estate, which is what I’ll talk about tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Aunque existe una idea colectiva de miedo sobre estas fechas, la mayor\u00c3\u00ada de historiadores y cient\u00c3\u00adficos del mundo no suponen en las predicciones Mayas un “apocalipsis” como tal, por el contrario, todos hablan de una renovaci\u00c3\u00b3n c\u00c3\u00adclica, una nueva etapa en la cosmogon\u00c3\u00ada Maya. En este sentido, las buenas noticias son que el “fin del mundo” en realidad supone el “comienzo de uno nuevo”.<\/p>\n

Se avecina el tiempo de M\u00c3\u00a9xico.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mi predicci\u00c3\u00b3n personal es que esta “nueva era” de la que hablamos podr\u00c3\u00ada significar el tiempo de M\u00c3\u00a9xico, el tiempo para su renacer mundial.<\/p>\n

Muchos expertos en econom\u00c3\u00ada y pol\u00c3\u00adtica mundial, aseguran que M\u00c3\u00a9xico muy probablemente alcance y supere a Brasil como potencia econ\u00c3\u00b3mica mundial en los pr\u00c3\u00b3ximos 10 a\u00c3\u00b1os. Siendo Brasil la econom\u00c3\u00ada latinoamericana m\u00c3\u00a1s grande, seguida de M\u00c3\u00a9xico, la importancia internacional de esto ser\u00c3\u00ada enorme.<\/p>\n

Estos mismos expertos est\u00c3\u00a1n llamando a M\u00c3\u00a9xico “la nueva China” debido a las grandes condiciones del pa\u00c3\u00ads tanto para la manufactura, como para la exportaci\u00c3\u00b3n, haciendo del pa\u00c3\u00ads un lugar inmejorable para la inversi\u00c3\u00b3n nacional y extranjera.<\/p>\n

Cualquiera que haya visitado nuestro pa\u00c3\u00ads en el reciente tiempo sabr\u00c3\u00a1 que aqu\u00c3\u00ad el mercado inmobiliario est\u00c3\u00a1 en despunte, desde centros comerciales de primer nivel, zonas tur\u00c3\u00adsticas de renombre mundial con marinas, campos de golf, hoteles de lujo, as\u00c3\u00ad como infraestructura vial, de transporte y seguridad.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00c3\u00a1s el sector tur\u00c3\u00adstico nacional se encuentra en su mejor momento. Actualmente M\u00c3\u00a9xico ocupa la 5ta posici\u00c3\u00b3n a nivel mundial en destinos tur\u00c3\u00adsticos, y la meta para los pr\u00c3\u00b3ximos 5 a\u00c3\u00b1os es subir hasta el 3er lugar. El fortalecimiento inmobiliario del pa\u00c3\u00ads y su tremendo \u00c3\u00a9xito, se debe en gran medida a este mismo crecimiento tur\u00c3\u00adstico. Zonas como los bienes ra\u00c3\u00adces en M\u00c3\u00a9rida<\/a> y en general los bienes ra\u00c3\u00adces en Yucat\u00c3\u00a1n<\/a> se han visto beneficiados a lo largo de estos \u00c3\u00baltimos a\u00c3\u00b1os de su crecimiento tur\u00c3\u00adstico.<\/p>\n

Para mi, esta fecha del 21 de Diciembre del 2012, al igual que los antiguos Mayas significa algo positivo, el renacer de M\u00c3\u00a9xico con el mundo.<\/p>\n
