Vacations?<!--:--><!--:es-->Las ventajas de los costos del Caribe mexicano.<!--:-->"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--:en--><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Retirement in Mexico - does it make sense?\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/RETIREMENT\/DSCF4439.jpg\" alt=\"Cost of living in Mexico\" width=\"232\" \/>OK, so a brief glimpse at prices has convinced you that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mexico real estate<\/a> costs less.\u00c2\u00a0 But still \u00e2\u20ac\u201c aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t you just adding more expenses to your lifestyle; even if a condo on the beach in Mexico is a quarter of the price of one in Hawaii, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re still spending $200,000 USD, adding another property to maintain, more travel expenses, right?<\/p>\n<p>While it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always good to balance every opinion with another, a closer look will show that this is, in fact, NOT the truth the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Briefly, let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s consider the main reasons people buy in Mexico:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/lets-retire-in-mexico\/\">Mexico retirement<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 &#8211; part time in Mexico<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Retirement &#8211; full time, permanent in Mexico<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Vacationing<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you are buying for any of these reasons (as well as others not listed here) buying a property in Mexico will NOT pose any additional expenses.\u00c2\u00a0 Essentially it would replace a property you would own elsewhere.\u00c2\u00a0 If make the leap 100% and make Mexico your full-time residence, then you would sell your property back home and the savings would be obvious; if you are vacationing or living part time in Mexico, than the property would simply replace a second property in your home country.<\/p>\n<p>In either case, it would offer considerable savings for the following reasons:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Retirement in Mexico - does it make sense?\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/RETIREMENT\/retireonbeach.jpg\" alt=\"Cost of living in Mexico\" width=\"232\" \/><strong>The home would be less expensive.<\/strong> Whether you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re replacing your permanent home or second property, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re replacing a property worth $300,000 USD, for example, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/homes.php\">Mexico home for sale<\/a> that might cost $200,000 USD. Of course, the difference could be more or less or on a larger or smaller scale depending on your situation, but in any case, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re adding a very large lump sum to your savings.\u00c2\u00a0 How can you go wrong with that?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The cost of living is significantly lower.<\/strong> Many expats feel that on average living costs about half that in the U.S. or Canada.\u00c2\u00a0 A handful of items are more expensive, but by and large day to day expenses, bills, traveling, groceries, furniture, dining out, etc. are significantly less costly.\u00c2\u00a0 Some people will choose to spend their extra savings on living more comfortably, traveling more, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 But either way, you win in the end.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>But what about travel expenses?<\/strong> But won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t you be spending all of this back in travel?\u00c2\u00a0 If you make the move permanently, this isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even a concern.\u00c2\u00a0 However, even if you make frequent trips home or if you are only living in Mexico part time, the travel expenses are probably lower than you would think.\u00c2\u00a0 Good prices on return flights from Canada to Cancun or Puerto Vallarta range between $400 and $600.\u00c2\u00a0 That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about as expensive as it gets, unless you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re looking at a less popular location that requires various flights.\u00c2\u00a0 However, in that case, the savings on properties and cost of living would be that much greater.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Retirement in Mexico - does it make sense?\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/RETIREMENT\/banner-act-seniors.png\" alt=\"Cost of living in Mexico\" width=\"464\" \/>Now let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s compare. \u00c2\u00a0For most North Americans, the flights are only slightly more than most flights to warm weather locations in the U.S.\u00c2\u00a0 In some situation there is no difference.\u00c2\u00a0 But let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s be generous and assume that the difference is $200 per return flight.\u00c2\u00a0 Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s say you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re back and forth often \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 4 times a year.\u00c2\u00a0 That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s an added expense of <strong>$800 USD <\/strong>per year.\u00c2\u00a0 It would be rare that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d actually arrive to the point of spending this much more, but, just for comparison \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/p>\n<p>If you consider a cost of living that&#8217;s about half of that back home, for some people that would mean saving up to $2000 per month.\u00c2\u00a0 Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just say $1000 to avoid going overboard.\u00c2\u00a0 With 12 months in a year, that makes for $12,000 USD savings per year.\u00c2\u00a0 If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re spending only part of the year in Mexico, then we could say half of that &#8211; <strong>$6000 USD<\/strong>. And don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t forget about that huge chunk you saved on the property in Mexico &#8211; $50,000 maybe even $100,000?\u00c2\u00a0 So, how does $800 USD more in travel expenses, which you may not even spend, compare to that?<\/p>\n<p>The savings are most certainly a HUGE point in favor of owning a property in Mexico.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, probably the bigger point is getting used to living in another country.\u00c2\u00a0 That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s probably easier than you think too, but that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a different topic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thomas Lloyd<\/strong><em> graduated from Purdue University Krannert School of Management with a degree in Management\/Financial Option Investments. Las playas de la Riviera Maya no le piden absolutamente nada a ninguna playa del mundo.
