{"id":6613,"date":"2013-06-01T12:53:03","date_gmt":"2013-06-01T18:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/temp-blog\/?p=6613"},"modified":"2017-08-28T16:18:57","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T21:18:57","slug":"playa-del-carmen-the-other-side-of-the-highway-should-i-buy-there","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/playa-del-carmen-the-other-side-of-the-highway-should-i-buy-there\/","title":{"rendered":"<!--:en-->Playa del Carmen &#038; The Other Side of the Highway \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Should I Buy There?<!--:-->"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--:en--><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Plaza las Americas mall in Playa del Carme\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/Shopping\/PlazalasAmericasmallinPlayadelCarmen_zps239f2c75.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" \/>\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>From what I&#8217;ve heard (and read) up until the 1990s, Playa was a little village on the beachfront.\u00c2\u00a0 You basically had to go down off the highway and drive for a few minutes before reaching the town.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with all the growth over the past 2 decades, the highway pretty much divides the city in half, with as much \u00e2\u20ac\u201c if not more \u00e2\u20ac\u201c development on the side of the highway away from the beach.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>That&#8217;s the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Other Side\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When we speaking of the side of the highway away from the beach, we usually call int the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153other side\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of the highway \u00e2\u20ac\u201c with \u00e2\u20ac\u0153other\u00e2\u20ac\u009d definitely indicating that it&#8217;s not the normal place to be.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, on the other hand, all expats spend time over there by necessity and for pleasure; in fact, a good number of expats actually live on the other side of the highway as well.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lots of Great Services\u00c2\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Nicer Mexican home on the other side of the highway\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/Playa%20del%20Carmen%20Homes%20%20Villas\/NicerMexicanhomeontheothersideofthehighway_zpse7646e4c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The reason we all spend so a good deal of time over there is that, since it&#8217;s the newer part of town, that&#8217;s also where the newer services are located, including all of these:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 large, nice malls<\/li>\n<li>2 modern, large-screen movie theaters<\/li>\n<li>A brand-new bowling alley<\/li>\n<li>A new commercial area with a Walmart, Radio Shack and many other stores<\/li>\n<li>A beautiful community park with plenty of events<\/li>\n<li>Great bars (nice ones!) and local taco shops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now, Fifth Avenue, right down by the beach, is definitely the hang-out spot and the areas nearest are still the first neighborhoods people consider for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/playadelcarmen-real-estate\/\">Playa del Carmen real estate<\/a>, as you can see for so many other things, we find ourselves over on the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153other side of the highway.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hidden Gems of Communities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While there are a few neighborhoods that are visually rough around the edges (although by no means dangerous,) the areas around the shopping malls are emerging as nice, new communities that would probably be attractive to many expats.\u00c2\u00a0 Some have gated entrances, several community pools, paid security and maintenance and generally just nice design of houses.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Home in Playa\" src=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/1-test\/images.php?image=43732&amp;propId=4422\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" \/>\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>The nice thing is that one of the malls is usually a walk away.\u00c2\u00a0 A bike ride will get you to restaurants and other shops.\u00c2\u00a0 Bike lovers would easily go downtown in about 15-20 minutes on the city&#8217;s new bike trails.<\/p>\n<p>For, those who prefer not to bike, the drive to the beach and the heart of downtown is about 10 minutes.\u00c2\u00a0 Taxis are also inexpensive, charging about $3 for the ride.
