{"id":6688,"date":"2013-06-19T12:50:53","date_gmt":"2013-06-19T18:50:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/temp-blog\/?p=6688"},"modified":"2017-08-28T16:18:19","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T21:18:19","slug":"some-alternative-mexican-retirement-destinations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/some-alternative-mexican-retirement-destinations\/","title":{"rendered":"<!--:en-->Some \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Alternative\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mexican Retirement Destinations<!--:-->"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--:en-->So, we all know about Cancun, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/playadelcarmen-real-estate\/\">Playa del Carmen<\/a>, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos \u00e2\u20ac\u201c are those and similar places the only good retirement destinations in Mexico?<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, I found this interesting article from Voxxi, by Phillippe Diederich, about alternative retirement destinations in Mexico \u00e2\u20ac\u201c nice places that are even less expensive than the popular destinations.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Mineral de los Pozos\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/RETIREMENT\/MineraldelosPozos_zpsac8ea9b7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" \/>\u00c2\u00a0Some Factual Errors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It starts off with some factual errors, claiming &#8220;prices for real estate in choice areas &#8230; are now quite even with prices in popular retirement towns across the U.S.;\u00e2\u20ac\u009d even if this were true, it fails to take into\u00c2\u00a0 consideration factors like cost of living, good, affordable health care and weather.\u00c2\u00a0 Yet, we know that this is simply contrary to fact.<\/p>\n<p>For example, I haven&#8217;t heard of any warm, sunny beach destination in the U.S. where you can get a nice condo 10 minutes from the beach for $75,000 USD or a penthouse right across the road from the beach for $90,000.\u00c2\u00a0 Currently I know of properties for sale like this in Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta, two of the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153big names.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>(They also mislabel a picture of Valladolid as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Merida\u00e2\u20ac\u009d but I&#8217;ll forgive them for that one!)<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There are Other Places &#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The big names are big for a reason; yet, that having been said, there are other very nice retirement options in Mexico that are not well known, but offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/lets-retire-in-mexico\/\">an appealing lifestyle<\/a> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and often, they are even less expensive than the popular destinations, which are quite affordable to begin with.\u00c2\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"The town of Patzcuaro\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/RETIREMENT\/ThetownofPatzcuaro_zpsb6db4278.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In addition to offering people the best real estate service in Mexico&#8217;s favorite destinations, here at Top Mexico we&#8217;ve always believed in presenting people with lesser-known but attractive alternatives.\u00c2\u00a0 Of the 5 choice alternatives they present, Top Mexico Real Estate has brokers in 3 of them:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sayulita \u00e2\u20ac\u201c<\/strong> as a part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/merida-real-estate\">Puerto Vallarta area<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/merida-real-estate\">Merida<\/a><strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c<\/strong> along with its less-known and quaint beachfront town, Progreso.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Patzcuaro<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c a lakefront town near the beautifully kept up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/morelia-real-estate\/\">colonial city of Morelia<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They add two more very nice choices:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Puebla <\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u0153A short drive from Mexico City, Puebla is Mexico\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fourth largest city, and a colonial jewel. Puebla is on the other side of the famous Popocatepetl volcano from Mexico City and the sight of the battle where the Cinco de Mayo holiday was named after. &#8230;\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Mineral de Pozos \u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u0153<\/strong>If what you are looking for is a quiet little town, check out Mineral de Pozos, in the state of Guanajuato,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d not far from the more famous retirement destination San Miguel de Allende, I might add. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Pozos is a former silver mining town that became a ghost town \u00e2\u20ac\u201c until recently.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I would a few more picks of my own for less know, even less expensive but nice destinations for retirement:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Costa Maya's Beach\" src=\"http:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/RETIREMENT\/CostaMayasBeach_zpsfb399e81.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Costa Maya<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 3 hours south of Cancun, Costa Maya is the kind of place where you will know all the other expats and probably be able to name them.\u00c2\u00a0 The quiet charm and splendid beaches (which match those here in Playa del Carmen, but are mostly undiscovered.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/costamaya-real-estate\/\">See listings here<\/a>.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Campeche <\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u201c This colonial city is one of the best kept up to be found, and it&#8217;s located right on the waterfront.\u00c2\u00a0 Both the city itself and the beaches stretching southward offer a quiet place that at the same time has many activities. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/campeche-real-estate\/\">Read more here<\/a>.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Valle de Bravo \u00e2\u20ac\u201c<\/strong> This charming lakefront town is a popular destination for middle- and upper-class vacationers from Mexico City.\u00c2\u00a0 The countryside also has many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/valledebravo-real-estate\/homes-valledebravo.php\">beautiful ranches<\/a> with rolling hills and meandering streams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are probably a good number of other choices for places that are fairly unknown, but still very pleasant retirement choices.
