First of all, let’s quickly review the cases in which it usually DOES NOT pay to do it yourself:<\/em><\/p>\n

You’re new to Mexico<\/em> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Give yourself time to get into the swing of a new culture first!<\/em><\/p>\n

The service is free<\/em> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c As with a buyer’s agent when you’re searching<\/em><\/p>\n

Professionals have access to something very valuable<\/em> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c For example, if you’re renting out, it may be worth hiring a rental agency that has an established international advertising strategy. Or, when you’re selling, a seller’s agent can offer the same.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"A<\/strong>However, once you’ve gotten used to certain aspects of Mexico and have some experience, there are certain aspects you may wish to do yourself to save money, or to have more personal control.<\/em><\/p>\n

Hands-on landlord<\/em> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c If you are living in Mexico<\/a> and are renting out properties for long-term, you may do well being more hands-on.\u00c2\u00a0 You could save money and get more out of your investment.\u00c2\u00a0 However, this will only be true if you are not loosing time that would be valuable elsewhere and you are familiar with the legal ins and outs of being a landlord in Mexico (e.g. contracts, etc.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Renovation<\/em> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c After<\/strong> you’ve seen how things are done, then you might wish to oversee a renovation project yourself.\u00c2\u00a0 Just remember, having done renovations in the U.S. doesn’t mean you will know how to do them in Mexico!<\/p>\n

Especially those who are making a go of as small-time real estate investors sometimes<\/em> find that taking a hands-on approach can save them money and help to boost their investment. \u00c2\u00a0For others, the pure pleasure of a new challenge is also fun!<\/p>\n
