{"id":231,"date":"2013-04-04T15:09:13","date_gmt":"2013-04-04T21:09:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/brokers\/?p=231"},"modified":"2014-08-22T11:14:44","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T16:14:44","slug":"the-sandwich-generation-your-clients-and-mexico-real-estate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/brokers\/2013\/04\/the-sandwich-generation-your-clients-and-mexico-real-estate\/","title":{"rendered":"<!--:en-->The Sandwich Generation, Your Clients and Mexico Real Estate<!--:-->"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--:en--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/brokers\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Sandwich-Generation-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Retiring in Mexico\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/brokers\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Sandwich-Generation-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/brokers\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Sandwich-Generation.jpg 590w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>You&#8217;ve probably heard of the &#8220;sandwich generation&#8221; &#8211; mostly Baby Boomers who are already responsible for aging parents while still caring for at least semi-dependent children.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not in this generation, many of your clients probably are!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This generation, more than ever is feeling the crunch, and here are some reasons more and more of them will be looking to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/\">Mexico real estate<\/a> as a solution.\u00a0 According to a survey from the Insured Retirement Institute of Americans ages 50 to 66:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boomers confident in their retirement preparations has declined by 7 percentage points in the past two years, from 44% in 2011 to 37% in 2013.<\/li>\n<li>24% of boomers said they were having difficulty paying their rent or mortgage<\/li>\n<li>22% of working boomers have stopped contributing to their retirement savings<\/li>\n<li>69% of boomers are not confident they will have enough money to pay for their children\u2019s college expenses<\/li>\n<li>75% are not confident they will have enough to pay the long-term care expenses of their parents<\/li>\n<li>21% of working boomers have postponed their plans to retire<\/li>\n<li>In 2013, 18% of boomers said they were planning to retire at age 70 or later, up from 11% in 2011.<\/li>\n<li>In 2013, 6% of boomers said they plan to retire in their 50s, down from 9% in 2011<\/li>\n<li>Of those who are not sure when they will retire, 25% cited insufficient savings as the reason, versus 13% who say they simply enjoy working and 3% who \u201cdon\u2019t want to be bored.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>46% of retired boomers said they were extremely or very confident that they had done a good job preparing financially for retirement, versus only 32% of working boomers.<\/li>\n<li>48% of the retirees say a defined benefit pension plan is a \u201cmajor source of income\u201d for them in retirement, compared 38% of working boomers<\/li>\n<li>45% of working boomers expect to rely heavily on 401(k) accounts, versus 34% of retired boomers<\/li>\n<li>42% of boomers don\u2019t anticipate much change in their outlook on retirement finances over the next five years. Another 20% expect things to get somewhat or significantly worse<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>(Read a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.marketwatch.com\/encore\/2013\/04\/02\/boomers-retirement-confidence-sinks\/\" target=\"_blank\">recent article from the Wall Street Journal&#8217;s Market Watch<\/a> for full discussion.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More and more of those who are really feeling pressure (as increasingly the case) are looking to Mexico.\u00a0 Owning a nicer home for a significantly lower price in a place where the <strong>cost of living is lower<\/strong> and its even <strong>easier to open a business<\/strong> presents a solution to much of the financial pressure.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Those who haven&#8217;t looked toward Mexico most certainly should be doing so &#8211; and for you as a broker, it&#8217;s best to be prepared to help!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thomas Lloyd<\/strong><em> graduated from Purdue University Krannert School of Management with a degree in Management\/Financial Option Investments.
