Welcome to our newest blog!\u00a0 This blog follows our main Top Mexico Real Estate Blog<\/a>, which focuses on real estate, properties, buying tips, etc., and Let’s Retire in Mexico<\/a>, which offers a more personal take on our experience, adventures and discoveries of living in Mexico and searching for\u00a0 the perfect retirement.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The purpose of this blog is to offer real estate brokers<\/strong> abroad and in other regions of Mexico news, information, updates and discussions about professionalism in\u00a0Mexico real estate<\/a> and the new international direction that this professionalism has taken.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n A Brief Glimpse at Professionalism<\/strong><\/p>\n Most of Mexico has had no requirements for real estate agents; this means that anyone could call themselves an agent and offers this kind of service to clients without having any experience or studies in the field.\u00a0 It was up to the buyer to do their homework and ask for credentials; many buyers, especially international ones who were used to places where agents can only work under license with an obligation to demonstrate qualifications, used to be either unaware that they had to check for this or did not know exactly what to look for.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Mexico’s Association for Real Estate Professionals (AMPI, the acronym in Spanish) has lead the way for professionalization of the industry, offering courses, certificates, professional and ethical standards and even university degrees. AMPI has also offered an identifiable indication of professionalism for buyers to look for – i.e. member brokers.\u00a0 The most recent result of AMPI’s efforts has been that a larger number of Mexican states have introduced laws requiring licenses for real estate agents.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Part of what AMPI has also accomplished is establishing Mexico as a part of an international network of real estate associations, headed by the U.S. National Association of Realtors (NAR) and including groups like the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA.)\u00a0 This move has raised the bar of professionalism to international standards as well as helped to establish networks allowing realtors in North America and other continents to find professional, qualified agent brokers more readily.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Undiscovered Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n Mexico still continues to offer many of the world’s most important undiscovered real estate opportunities for Americans and Canadians (not to mention many Mexican nationals!) Besides the ideal combination of low prices with good economy, modern services and a colorful culture, it is also very close to home, with flights of only a couple of hours for many.\u00a0 The growing professionalism in this country makes these exciting opportunities that much more accessible.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The Role of Brokers Abroad<\/strong><\/p>\n What does this mean for real estate brokers in the U.S. or Canada?\u00a0 When soon-to-be expats or investors decide that they want to buy in Mexico, it is becoming more and more common that they will approach a broker in their home town with whom they have worked and whom they trust to help them find a broker offering service of a similar quality in Mexico.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n For brokers in Mexico (for example in Mexico City or Guadalajara) it means they can recommend their valued customers to a broker of international standards.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n In both cases, the broker will want to be sure that their clients are in good hands.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The purpose of this blog is to help brokers see where the Mexico real estate industry is moving, and find the best qualified broker to serve their client’s needs in another country.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Thomas Lloyd<\/strong> graduated from Purdue University Krannert School of Management with a degree in Management\/Financial Option Investments.
