{"id":1589,"date":"2013-09-20T10:09:07","date_gmt":"2013-09-20T16:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/lets-retire-in-mexico\/?p=1589"},"modified":"2014-09-20T21:55:20","modified_gmt":"2014-09-21T02:55:20","slug":"what-does-peace-one-day-mean-for-those-living-in-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/lets-retire-in-mexico\/2013\/09\/what-does-peace-one-day-mean-for-those-living-in-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"What Does Peace One Day Mean for Those Living in Mexico?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow, Sat., Sept. 21, is Peace One Day.\u00a0 What is Peace One Day?\u00a0 Take a look:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W-mjYTlUM5g\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As Jeremy Gilley points out in the video, Peace One Day is an organization and movement to promote world peace for one day \u2013 September 21st \u2013 each year.\u00a0 The accomplishments are wonderful, even bring the Taliban to make promises of peace for this day!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Seeing things like this is moving and inspiring.\u00a0 Yet, it always leaves us with the question \u2013 what does this mean for us as people living in Mexico, or just human beings living our day to day lives?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that, as Jeremy points out, peace and Peace One Day isn&#8217;t just about the United Nations, big international treaties and wars on the other end of the world; it&#8217;s about us, regular people caring and getting involved.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peace for Mexico<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every country has its own acts of violence to address and clean up.\u00a0 Let me address some of Mexico&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While we&#8217;ve pointed out, Mexico&#8217;s drug wars are often exaggerated in the media.\u00a0 Yet, especially in certain pockets in the north of the country, there are villages have been ravaged by feuding gangs.\u00a0 In these same areas there are people who&#8217;ve got themselves involved in these conflicts and live their lives in tense fear.\u00a0 These people need peace.\u00a0 While there isn&#8217;t much we can do about this, simply thinking of them on Saturday is worthwhile.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then there are cases of domestic violence.\u00a0 This happens everywhere, but in much of Mexico, the country&#8217;s laws against it (which do exist!) are not well enforced if enforced at all.\u00a0 These people need peace and perhaps any one of us has the chance to reach out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nPeace can also mean not living in hunger and having decent shelter.
