{"id":416,"date":"2013-01-24T16:07:21","date_gmt":"2013-01-24T22:07:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/lets-retire-in-mexico\/?p=416"},"modified":"2014-08-20T12:32:16","modified_gmt":"2014-08-20T18:32:16","slug":"living-in-mexico-tip-should-i-eat-in-the-small-restaurants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.topmexicorealestate.com\/lets-retire-in-mexico\/2013\/01\/living-in-mexico-tip-should-i-eat-in-the-small-restaurants\/","title":{"rendered":"Living in Mexico Tip &#8211; Should I Eat in the Local Restaurants?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Local Taco Shop in Playa del Carmen\" src=\"https:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/Playa%20del%20Carmen%20photos\/IMG_1119_zps89670da7.jpg\" alt=\"Living in Playa del Carmen\" width=\"250\" \/><br \/>\nWhen it comes to food and traveling, the rule for tourists is pretty clear; stick to the restaurants in the resort\/hotel or the bigger, nicer restaurants in the tourist areas.\u00a0 No need to spoil the vacation because you got sick from eating in a sketchy little restaurant.\u00a0 After all, even in the nicer places, prices are still excellent compared to back home!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, once you actually settle down and begin living in Mexico as a retiree, either full time or part time on the longer term, it&#8217;s nice to try something different, something a bit more adventurous.\u00a0 Most people know that you can find nice little gems in the local restaurants with excellent food and even lower prices.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The question is: How do you know which ones are good?\u00a0 How do you know you won&#8217;t get sick?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While trial and error may not be the most appealing approach (and could leave you shut in your home when you should be out enjoying the beach), there are tips you can follow, such as the following:<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Fruit stand in Playa del Carmen\" src=\"https:\/\/i255.photobucket.com\/albums\/hh138\/beatlo\/Playa%20del%20Carmen%20photos\/IMG_0831_zps85eb3934.jpg\" alt=\"Living in Playa del Carmen\" width=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Ask other expats.<\/strong><\/em> Word spreads, and most expats have their regular hang-outs that usually NOT the main tourist spots.\u00a0 In most communities where there are expats, a good portion of them will be adventurous; they&#8217;ll already have been out there and discovered which places have good food.
