This week we were invited out to see new areas of Playa del Carmen that are growing. Areas on the west side of the 307 highway, an area that many non-Mexicans knew existed. The Playa del Carmen real estate market has been growing in the past 10 years at extreme rates, (it has been tagged as the fastest growing Latin American community for several years now). After the tour that my office and I took this week, it reminded me why it won this title.
In a previous post, we talked about the new by pass that was relieving the traffic flowing from the north end of town to the southern half through a new avenue called ARCO VIAL. On the southern half of the city heading north, about 1/2 kilometer before the new over head pass is being constructed, the Arco Vial connects to the highway 307.  This is where Centro Maya is located. Our tour starts down this road heading west. We noticed that the bowling alley is moving along in construction and will research when the expected innauguration is to occur, but from the looks of it, December 2010 might be a good guess!  Our guide took us about 50 meters past the Centro Maya to the “turn around” and had us turn south again.  THE NEW PLAYACAR community was how they tagged this zone. And the wide avenue, and the gated entrances to the communities were evidence that this new tag was understandable.  “This area” explained our guide “will be the future home for middle upper and middle income families. It will have close access to the Soriana grocery store, banks, Office Depot, Movies, restaurants and other shops and entertainment from the Centro Maya shopping mall” .   In our community, we are also planning to introduce by year end, the first private sports club in Playa del Carmen, Tennis, Swimming, Raquetball and many other family activities will be offered within the complex.
