Working in the Tulum real estate industry, we need to keep a close eye on activities, on news, on events that will effect the market. We are a small town, but with the natural attractions of the Caribbean beaches and cenotes, it has become one of the regions most observed for its appreciation potential. In the past several months, many people have asked me about the latest information regarding the Tulum International Airport and how this will play upon the market.
What I can tell you is that The state government through its transportation and infrastructure Secretary is pushing the Federal Government to publicize the licitation results of the contract for the month of February.
The secretary has stated that it is a very important project for Quintana Roo and it is a Federal government concession. Furthermore the Secretaria de la Reforma Agraria, (which is the entity that regularizes the tenancy of National lands and ejidolands) has secured adjacent parcels to provide the certainty that the project requires.
The Secretary has also informed that the Chetumal Airport landing strip will be expanded by 800 M to raise it to international standards.
The future of Quintana Roo, the Mexican Caribbean, and specifically the Tulum real estate market is looking very bright. Many people have already invested into the region while the prices have been more than 35% less than like properties in Cancun for example. But given the rapid real estate growth witnessed the past five years in the Playa del Carmen condo real estate market, these investors are betting that Tulum will repeat the trends and possibly have an even stronger growth rate. Similar trends have been predicted for Akumal also which is fast becoming a snorkeling destination.
