Working in the real estate industry here in Mexico, we like to refer to houses as “homes” – for us here at TOPMexicoRealEstate this has a lot to do with our dedication to helping buyers find a Playa del Carmen property where they will truly feel at home.
If you are someone who tends to be a bit skeptical (and you haven’t lived in Mexico yet), you might be thinking, “That’s just to make it sound nicer. You can buy a vacation property, but it’s never going to be your home.”
Not so in Playa del Carmen. Many Americans and Canadians have bought a Playa del Carmen home (or house, if you insist) and have fallen in love with beautiful beaches, the warm weather, the neighborly small-town atmosphere, and have truly come to feel at home in this community.
The beaches are always there, are always beautiful, and are a part of our lives, but what really defines Playa del Carmen as home, however, is the community which people experience here. This is a place where you get to know your neighbors, you chat in the evenings while the kids play in the park, you get together with people to watch movies, play cards, celebrate birthdays or have some drinks on the beach. There definitely is a vibrant nightlife, but there is also a very strong family & friends atmosphere.
As you walk down Fifth Avenue (the pedestrian street which is the center of the areas dining and shopping) or in the mall, you will meet people you know, or who recognize you, and they will stop to talk, ask you about your family, your work, other acquaintances, etc. Waiters in restaurants and shopkeepers will get to know as you become a regular.
Now, don’t worry; it’s not quite the place where “everybody knows your name!” The town has grown large enough so you can find new places, and the surrounding area has many places to visit as well. The point is, you always have the people you know to come back to!
Of course, most of us miss our first home sometimes (although some people have told me no, I think it’s normal for the majority.) And we all find things about Playa del Carmen (just like any place) that just drive us up the wall. But again, here there are good friends who will listen and understand exactly what you mean …
If you choose to live in Mexico, in a place like Playa del Carmen, you will be choosing much more than just a property, you will be finding a second home!
