Mexico Beachfront for Sale in Yucatan – The Lure of the Peninsula’s North Coast

Filed Under: Mexico Ecology, Mexico Oceanfront, Mitch Keenan, Yucatan Real Estate

While it is less known than the famous beachfront tourist locations on the Yucatan Peninsula’s Caribbean coast, the north shore of Yucatan has a distinct lure of its own, giving it a lure within the market of Mexico beachfront for sale.  Some of the attractive features include:

The Beaches – The north coast of the Yucatan has beautiful beaches with soft, white sand; many of the beaches are still virgin.  Many Americans and Canadians enjoy buying Yucatan real estate on this coast at very low prices.

The Quiet Atmosphere – Since tourism isn’t not very strong here, the beaches are very quiet and private.  Life here is relaxed and calm.  It is the ideal place for a life on the beach for anyone who really wants to “get away from it all.”

Nature – There is a very wide variety of natural beauty, ranging from palm-lined beaches to jungle areas with the unique cenotes (natural pools of water at the entrance points to the underground cave system.)  There are also wildlife reserves; in both Celestun and Rio Lagartos (almost at opposite ends of the region) there are large populations of flamingos in their natural habitat, and many, many other species of birds and wildlife.

Small Towns – The towns that are in this area are small, quaint and relaxed. Some, like Progreso, are partially tourist towns, welcoming cruise ships and many middle class vacationers from the nearby city of Merida; others are little fishing villages where life has gone unchanged for decades, if not much longer.

Close Access to Cities – While nature and small towns define the north coast of Yucatan, the entire area has close access to the large colonial city of Merida (between 20 minutes and 2 hours away); the eastern area also has close access to Cancun within a drive of an hour or two. In these cities, besides excellent airport access, there are all modern amenities and services.

This unique part of Yucatan definitely offers a distinct balance of beautiful beaches, a quiet lifestyle, splendid nature and close access to modern services.  Many expats will find that this area is their dream come true.
