Yucatan real estate is one of the varied options within Mexico and Latin America, offering colonial, modern and beachfront options for excellent prices. Recent improvements to a beachfront town known as Celestun are promising for buyers interested in Yucatan homes for sale near the beach and very close to nature.
As of April 18, work to improve the image of the town of Celestun have advanced about 95 percent and are on schedule. The purpose of the improvements is to place the town more solidly on the international tourist map; such improvements also bring benefits for real estate buyers and expat residents.
The current project has received an investment of 27 million pesos, which is about $2.1 million USD.
The project includes the repaving of streets and work to expand the grid and the start of construction of the stadium dome near the Town Hall in the nearby village of Kinchil, as well as a renovation of the town’s picturesque old church.
In Celestun itself, visually appealing colored, pattern-stamped concrete was laid on six blocks in the town center, and more than six thousand square meters of asphalt and concrete were placed and replaced on roads. There were also a good deal of street lamps installed and new sidewalks.
The port of Celestun is internationally recognized for having one of the largest populations of pink flamingos in the world in the nearby biosphere reserve, as well as many other species of birds, mangroves, crocodiles and turtle nesting grounds.
Expats also find the town’s rich culture, blending ancient Mayan traditions with colonial era festivals, very attractive, which was most displayed in the town’s colorful Easter and Holy Week celebrations.
