On May 25, 2012, the Cozumel chapter of AMPI (the only professional association for Mexico real estate) hosted the Real Estate Trade Mission with the Texas Association of Realtors (TAR). TAR is the Texas branch of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), and the event is one of an ongoing series of connections and ties between the associations in Mexico and the U.S.
TAR’s 120 brokers participating in the event arrived on board the cruise ship Carnaval Magic with the purpose of getting to know the Cozumel real estate market in order to better present its advantages to their clients and developers from that state.
The opportunity is considered to be of high importance for the Cozumel real estate market, since Texas is the state with most air connections to Cozumel, Texans are the largest group of visitors to Cozumel and Cozumel is also the favorite vacation destination for Texans, largely because of its activities in diving and sport fishing and deep-sea fishing tours.
One of the highlights of the event was a tour of the island’s new marina, as pictured of this post.
The day-long event included a tour of the island’s historic, cultural and tourist sites (such as pyramids, nature parks, etc.) guided by Cozumel brokers, which doubled as a real estate tour. In the second half of the day there were various presentations from Mexico’s tourism investment trust, banks and AMPI representatives, covering themes such as Mexico’s Bank Trust ownership and mortgages for non-Mexicans. The visiting and hosting brokers also enjoyed lunch on the beachfront.
