One thing many Playa del Carmen real estate buyers are not aware of that there is much more to life in Playa del Carmen than the beachfront and tourism related activities. As wonderful as those are activities are, there’s another side to life in Playa del Carmen which makes life richer and gives a larger variety.
One example is the monthly “Tiangis Cultural†at La Ceiba Park coming up in 2 days – this Saturday, June 15, from 10 AM to 6 PM. (A “tianguis†is an open-air market that often includes many activities, sometimes more like a mini-festival.) The event will include:
- craftspeople and artisans
- local families and small farmers with fresh produce
- regional cuisine
- indigenous plants
- consultations with traditional Maya healers
The event is free.

La Ceiba Park is located at 1st St. South and the avenue called Diagonal 60; it is located near the intersection of Juarez Ave. and the federal highway, on the side back from the beach. This park hosts a number of regular events and is also simply a great place to go and relax. It is very natural with a good deal of original vegetation. It has a small cafe which is open whenever the park is open. The park is open 6 days a week (usually closed on Monday.)
