It’s always nice to sit here and write about Cancun’s growing role as an international hub for business and important conventions and events, and how all of this is great for Cancun real estate – both investors and residents. Yet, coming up in less than a month, Cancun will be host to yet another important international event, one that will probably turn a few more heads than the conventions of Latin American presidents and the like; Miss Bikini of the World 2012!
It is the first time this event will be held in Mexico, with the participation of contestants from 60 countries. Estimates say about five million people will be following the event through media and social networks (we probably don’t need to guess why!)
It will be taking place from September 15 to 30.
Of course, needless to say the event will gain a lot of attention worldwide and locally from many people who simply want to see the beautiful contestants. Yet, at the same time, it’s by no means a stretch to say that the event will actually bring real benefits for real estate owners in the area – and, no, I don’t mean watching the event.
The head of the State Tourism Secretariat (Sedetur), Juan Carlos Gonzalez Hernandez, pointed out that the choice of Cancun, out of many options worldwide, reflects the destination’s growing role in hosting world class events. Cancun’s increasing role in world-class events brings benefits like increased flight connections, nice restaurants and more investment into improved roads and services.
On the other hand, the event will do a good deal to promote Cancun’s name internationally even more – a fact that the local government intends to capitalize on completely; after all, what could do more to catch people’s attention than a bikini contest (of top worldwide contestants!) on the world’s most beautiful beach? Increased attention on Cancun will help boost tourism in general, which, in addition to bringing even more investment into infrastructure and activities, brings more exposure for rental markets and property re-sales.
So, yes, the world’s top bikini pageant is most certainly an extraordinary event in itself, but at the same time it is part of something much bigger happening as Cancun continues to consolidate itself as a world-class destination for events, tourism and real estate buyers.
