Part of the convenience of buying Mexico condos for sale or Mexico homes for sale in Playa del Carmen is access to Cancun international airport, the second busiest in Mexico. (This is especially true of El Cielo Residencial at the north end of Playa del Carmen, which enjoys a very short drive of only 35 minutes to the airport!)
Recently it has been announced that this airport will be receiving a hotel on site; while this will offer a few benefits to real estate buyers and owners in a direct sense, more importantly it is yet another part of the growing importance of this airport and an indication of increased service to be available in the future. Of course, the same is true for Cancun.
Aeropuertos del Sureste de Mexico (Asur) has included the hotel in its expansion plan for the Cancun airport. The hotel will have 120 rooms, and will focus on corporate use, mostly focused on staff arriving for conventions and forums who do not necessarily need to travel beyond the airport.
The center will be hosting 120 single and double rooms, housed in a three story building that includes a lobby, two elevators, emergency stairs, service areas, recreation spaces, 64 car parking, landscaped areas and pedestrian and vehicular circulation. The total area will add up to 5492 meters square (just over 59,000 sq. ft.)
The estimated cost for this project is $70.5 million dollars over the next three years. The hotel is the first built in an ASUR airport.
The new hotel will offer some convenience to real estate owners or buyers arriving in late night flights.
More significantly, however, is the fact that the hotel is yet another indication of the growing traffic coming and going through the airport. Cancun’s airport is expected to emerge as a travel hub between North and South America (as well as Europe.) This means more direct flight options will be appearing, as well as the possibility of lower prices.
