Yesterday, Playa del Carmen real estate owners had the chance to participate in a “recyclathon.” In many parts of Mexico, a frustration for expats (and many Mexicans) who care about the environment and landfill is the lack of recycling programs. Playa del Carmen has addressed this issue by having regular “recyclathons” in which temporary depots are set up throughout the city so residents can drop of any and all recyclable items they have. Today, there were 8 stations set up in Playa del Carmen and 2 for Puerto Aventuras real estate owners.
Besides the regular recyclathons, there is also a permanent recycling station at Parque la Ceiba, a beautiful little park located just back from the intersection of the Federal Highway and Juarez Ave, at 1st St South and 60th Ave. (This park is also home to regular cultural events, such as the handcrafts market on the 3rd Saturday of each month. It also has a nice little outdoor cafe and free wireless internet.)
