When we talk about Mexico real estate, one of the main focuses is to save money. And this is with good reason, since excellent properties in nice locations are available for significantly lower prices. There are also very nice price reductions available regular, not to mention pre-construction discounts on top of already good prices.
However, even when one of the main goals is to save money on a very comfortable lifestyle, there are times that savings can be sacrificed for other benefits. Consider these examples:
Rental Income
If you plan to rent your property in Mexico out to vacationers when you are not using it, it is worth investing more for a prime location (near the beach, or whatever the main lure of your location is) or a complex that has a good rental pool or strong international marketing established. You spend now, but it will pay back later.
Number of Properties Available
Sometimes we say, for example, that $140,000 USD is our absolute limit. However, because of the nature of the market, the number of good properties available for $150,000 USD doubles or even triples, as well as the variety in communities and locations. It may be worth stretching that budget those $10,000 simply to have the choice.
A Little More Expensive, But Just That Much Better!
In general, you see a property at the price you like, but if you invest just $20,000 more, you get a nicer common area with a larger pool, an extra bedroom, a few hundred sq. ft. more, nice appliances and in a more pleasant community. Believe me, this does happen!
Resale Prospects
How important is it to you to be able to resell the property quickly at a similar or higher price? For some people – often retires or vacationers who see the property as purely pleasure – this doesn’t matter all that much. However, if you see your property as an investment, and the potential for quick resale is important, investing a bit more can help.
In the end, you will still be saving substantially simply by buying in Mexico. Likewise, while you may choose to sacrifice some price for location, you can still find other ways to save, such as pre-construction discounts.
