I came across recently with a survey conducted by Better Homes and Gardens on the preferences of 500 luxury home buyers in the United States. Among the results –which were quite interesting- more than a 70% of the interviewees considered that buying real estate (in their case luxury real estate) was smarter than investing I the stock market and more than 50% of them said that luxury home ownership was the best indicator of having a successful job or title.
It is also known that the luxury consumer (in every kind of goods) is considered the trendsetter, the role model to look up to and from that on, products can either go higher up in quality or down as “the next best thing†after the first luxury version of it. So, after years of living in Mexico and working in real estate in Playa del Carmen has given me some wisdom on the subject that I would like to share with you.
What do Playa del Carmen luxury home buyers look for?
With the exponential growth that Playa del Carmen has been experiencing over the last 10 years, the market has been stuffed with pretty much any real estate choice you could possibly want, and in terms of luxury, our clients are mostly driven by surprise! Location, Lifestyle and Amenities, so let´s go on reviewing these as it follows
–  Location/Beachfront: Nothing says Luxury and Wealth better than a stunning view of the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean. Luxury home owners are known for having multiple properties within its home country and around the world, so depending on the budget and time you plan to spend in your beach pad, you could either go for a more humble beachfront condo in Playa del Carmen or well spend a couple of millions on a beachfront mansion.
– Â Lifestyle: This one is a key factor for most of our clients, because usually when someone looks for a second home abroad it has more to do with what they want and aspire in life, is about leisure and giving themselves a treat for their hard work. In that case, there is no need to say that Golf Course properties are one of the hottest in town. Another huge lifestyle trend in the area is sailing, so Marina communities like Puerto Aventuras are in and canal front homes have a hot demand.
– Â Amenities: There are also buyers who would compromise some square footage and even some privacy and go for the amenities; which are also very convenient and usually less expensive than, for example, buying a huge state and having full time household service. For these clients, a would definitely recommend a nice penthouse in a condo hotel in which they can enjoy as much of their time and not having to worry about little things like laundry or what to have for breakfast.
Remember, your real estate agent should always look for those properties that are more suitable to your lifestyle preferences and budget and that luxury not always means “more money†but also means having a better life, lets say a beautiful beach walking distance from your home, an outstanding golf course to try your swing in hand, a nice place where you can just take a few things and sail away for a while or just the peace and quiet of the jungle.
