- Maya Cancun Museum
This museum holds one of the most important and significant collections of Mayan artifacts. These emblematic collections not only belong to Quintana Roo but also to other Mayan archaeological sites such as Palenque, Chichen Itza and Comalcalco.
There are three thematic halls full of cultural attractions, from sculptures to Mayan pottery and jewelry. The first hall is dedicated to Quintana Roo’s archaeology. Here you will find important pieces that reflect the origin, development and strategies of exchanges between different cities.
The second hall covers general aspects of the Mayan civilization. The exhibited objects come from archaeological excavations in Quintana Roo and other Mexican states that cover the Mayan area.
The third and last hall is dedicated to temporal expositions associated with the thematic of the museum.
With the entrance fee you also have access to the San Miguelito archaeological site.
This museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm. It is located in Cancun’s Hotel Zone, Blvd. Kukulcan Km. 16.5 and the entrance fee is $64 pesos.
- Cancun Underwater Museum of Art
This monumental underwater museum was built in 2009 in the waters surrounding Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Punta Nizuc, and is one of the most amazing underwater attractions in the world. MUSA (Museo Subacuatico del Arte) has over 500 life-sized and monumental sculptures made of specialized materials to endure being under water.
There are different tours and activities to do in this museum.
Glass Bottom Boat: this excursion consists of an ocean view through an enclosed crystal structure. Enjoy the experience of viewing the beautiful depths of the ocean.
Scuba Diving: diving is actually an activity you can’t miss if you’re visiting the Riviera Maya. See all of the sculptures while diving under the fascinating crystal-clear Caribbean waters.

- 3D Museum of Wonders
This interactive museum is located downtown Playa del Carmen; it includes artistic creations made by one of the world’s leading illustrators in 3D conceptual artwork. If you like optical illusions, this space will fascinate you. The best thing about this museum is how you can actually interact with every part of this exhibition and create new memories. This amazing indoor experience is a must if you visit or live in Playa del Carmen. Don’t forget to bring your camera and take a lot of funny pictures!

- Museum of Prehistory Dos Ojos Park
This museum has been supported by many scientists from all over the world. It is considered a multidisciplinary project of subaquatic archaeology. Here you will see amazing discoveries and learn how the cenotes were formed. The “Ice Age and Climate Change†is a permanent exhibition in this museum. If you want to learn more about how the Riviera Maya has changed through the years, the Museum of Prehistory is highly recommended.
Visiting this museum will not take too long, so after you can go and do some snorkeling in the cenote Dos Ojos, one of the largest underground rivers in the Riviera Maya.
It is located on Carretera Cancun-Tulum Km. 124, Tulum, and the entrance fee to the museum is $50 pesos.

- El Acuario de Playa
This aquarium has a total of 3 floors with astonishing exhibitions and a total of 200 different species. This museum is fun and educational at the same time, and its goal is to generate an awareness of respect for the oceans and its flora and fauna.
It has different scenarios, such as a terrarium, ocean, cenote and beach. There’s also an amazing jellyfish exhibition that is totally worth visiting!
El Acuario de Playa is located in Plaza Corazón, on 5th Avenue and Calle 14. It’s open 7 days a week from 11 am to 9 pm. The regular entrance fee is $15 USD.
