Giving Back

Playa del Carmen has some excellent established organizations for people seeking fulfilling volunteer work.
One organization of choice is KKIS (Keeping Kids in School). This group works to support high school and university students so that they are able to complete their education. Typically bilingual volunteers are most needed for their ability to communicate with students and the community.

Animal lovers will enjoy the emotional rewards of a trip to help care for the dogs of PAR (Playa Animal Rescue). This group is a no-kill rescue site for the street dogs of Playa del Carmen. The group is supported entirely by volunteers, and all donations go directly to their programs. PAR organizes to spay, neuter, and care for Mexican street dogs. They treat dogs for illness and disease. Aditionally, they make them socialize and feed them well through foster care. Moreover they find a family to care for them as often as possible.

Another respected volunteer organization in Playa is Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México. It supports both ecological and cultural conservation, especially against unrestrained and accelerated urban and tourist development. Interested volunteers can contact the organization through its Facebook page.
