The Mayan Train, a transformative railway project, has transported over 50,000 passengers in its first 55 days of operations. As the company gears up to introduce the new route between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the focus shifts towards providing two main things. On the one hand, it is an efficient commuting option for the local workforce in the Riviera Maya. On the other hand, it is a new and practical experience for tourists whose final destination is the Riviera Maya. Nonetheless, the Playa del Carmen real estate market is also involved as a collateral benefit.
Enhanced Work Commute
In a recent announcement during President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning press conference, Óscar David Lozano Águila, the director general of the Mayan Train, shared plans to introduce a new schedule for the northbound segment, explicitly catering to daily commuters in the Riviera Maya. Starting from February 29th, a 06:00h departure from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen and a 07:30h departure from Playa del Carmen to Cancun Airport will facilitate a seamless and affordable work commute.
These additional runs complement the existing 09:00h, 12:00h, and 15:00h services departing from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen, with corresponding return times of 10:30h, 13:30h, and 16:30h for tourists exploring the region.
Passenger Mobility
With 345 trips completed in nearly two months, the Mayan Train has impressively transported 50,976 passengers. Of the total ticket sales, 46,169 were purchased at station counters, and 4,907 were acquired through the official website. Notable commercial routes include Merida Teya-Cancun Airport, boasting 4,872 tickets sold, closely followed by the San Francisco Campeche-Merida Teya route with 4,734 tickets sold.
Merida Teya emerges as the busiest station, catering to 13,155 passengers, followed by Cancun Airport (12,238), San Francisco Campeche (9,400), and Valladolid (5,221).
The Mayan Train’s operations span 15,045 km with five trains, each contributing significantly to the impressive mileage. The commitment to providing reliable passenger transport is evident in the extensive coverage.
Ticketing Convenience
Ticket sales are available physically at 14 stations. However, Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen are set to join soon after their inauguration on February 29th. Commercial outlets at Nía Tower in Merida and Plaza Galerías in Campeche also offer ticket sales. Government officials emphasize the importance of purchasing tickets solely through the official website. The reason was that the hype of the new transport initiated fraudulent sites circulating on social media. Therefore, you must be really careful not to fall victim to it.
Boosting Tourism
Introducing the new Cancun-Playa del Carmen route will undoubtedly revolutionize tourism in the region. The enhanced connectivity and convenient scheduling will attract more tourists. As so, the train offers them an efficient way to explore the vibrant landscapes along the Mayan Train route. This contributes to the local economy and establishes the Riviera Maya as a premier tourist destination.
Playa del Carmen Estate Appreciation
The Mayan Train’s expansion and improved connectivity catalyzed real estate appreciation in its traversing areas. Tulum, known for its picturesque beaches and burgeoning real estate market, stands to gain substantially. The ease of access provided by the train enhances the appeal of properties. Making Tulum real estate, including sought-after condos for sale, even more attractive to local and international investors. As infrastructure development continues, property values will appreciate, presenting lucrative opportunities for those in the real estate market.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, the Mayan Train elevates daily commuting and passenger transport and drives tourism and real estate development. The new Cancun-Playa del Carmen route is a testament to the project’s multifaceted impact. This creates a more connected, prosperous, and dynamic Riviera Maya.
