Campeche Real Estate Tour Update for October
Although many Americans and Canadians may not be familiar with Campeche, this state boasts a rich historical tapestry. Located along the Gulf of Mexico, Campeche was a critical point where the Spanish launched ships carrying gold and other riches back to Spain. The region is rife with stories of gold, pirates, battles, and lost treasures. To protect its people and treasures from frequent pirate attacks, Mexican colonial houses were constructed within fortified stone walls. Adding to this storied past, scattered Mayan ruins throughout the countryside have now become more accessible to tourists and students, thanks to the new Mayan Train.
The Mexican federal government is investing heavily in this area, recognizing the potential for increased global tourism. After extensive research into the tourism market potential, the government has committed 28 billion dollars to infrastructure developments aimed at boosting tourism over the next ten to twenty years.
How to Get to Campeche?
In the video link provided below, I start my journey at the Cancun Airport, where a free shuttle transports travelers to the nearby Mayan Train hub in Cancun. From there, passengers can board a train to various destinations of the Yucatan Peninsula, including Campeche on the Gulf of Mexico which is my destination. The train will circle the entire peninsula from Cancun, Chichen Itza, Merida, Campeche, Palenque, Bacalar, Tulum, Playa del Carmen and back to Cancun. And all along the route are huge and wonderous Mayan ruins and glamorous Haciendas to visit and explore.
The new train is…..AWSOME!
In this video, I am aboard the Mayan train that began operations in early 2024. The train features incredibly comfortable, air-conditioned carriages with a snack bar offering hot tamales, hamburgers, and cappuccinos, accompanied by Mexican bread pastries. Starting in 2025, the train will expand its amenities to include a carriage equipped with a kitchen and dining room, as well as several carriages designed for private sleeping quarters. This method of travel offers a wonderful way to explore the Yucatan Peninsula.
Recreation in Campeche
In this short video, I explain the numerous cafes, pubs, and restaurants situated in the downtown area of Campeche, nestled within the historic stone walls of the protecting fort. One notable street, 59th Street, is reserved for pedestrians and spans nearly eight blocks. It features a delightful array of restaurants, pubs, and cafes all located in bright colorful colonial buildings up and down the street. This bustling area attracts a lively mix of European and North American tourists who enjoy strolling through this vibrant part of town.
Cultural Events & Activities in Campeche
Wow, another festival in Campeche! Throughout the year, various celebrations take place, but October is a particularly special month for Campeche. This is when the state proudly commemorates its recognition and establishment as a state in Mexico. The festival is an incredible display of Campeche’s traditions, featuring unique clothing, dances, songs, and much more. I highly recommend adding a visit to this vibrant celebration to your bucket list. If you are a real estate investor, these tourist events and festivities are awesome.
