It´s beautiful, it´s in between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, and it´s a safe gated community with heavy security. Add to this one of the only marinas in Mexico to accommodate small boats, a golf course and the ability to live super close to the ocean and you have the defining features of Puerto Aventuras. So why have so few people heard of this place? I spoke to Hazel Richardson, one of our Top Mexico agents who live there, and she shared her thoughts about this little known part of the Riviera Maya.
Hazel: People think they´re not allowed to come in to Puerto Aventuras. The restaurants are right there that you can go to at any time, you have a good selection of bands and karaoke, And there´s also the dolphins, the manatees and the sea lions. You´ve also got the fisherman waiting for their tours to come in. You get to meet and enjoy lots of other people from all different parts of the world. But the community in general is just really nice because everyone is super friendly, everybody is very courteous with each other. It´s mainly English spoken, so it´s for people that are coming in from another country who don´t speak Spanish. It´s pretty easy to navigate your way through life in Puerto Aventuras. Right across the road is a big grocery store, Chedraui. So you have everything right there. If you really just want a nice small community. The collectivos run on a very regular basis, you can go to Playa or go to Tulum, because it´s right between in the Riviera Maya.
What kinds of reactions do people have when they find out about this place?
Hazel: As tourists. they love it. They say ¨My gosh, we love it here. We always go to Playa, we´ve been to Tulum, we didn´t even know this place was here.¨ But they´ve never heard of it, because it´s the best kept secret of the Riviera Maya. People that have rental property are losing because they don´t have the same kind of awareness that Playa del Carmen has. Although the ROI potential isn´t as high because nobody knows it´s there.
Rental prices in Puerto Aventuras are a little bit higher. Property prices are higher. I would say that vacation rental prices are higher and also if you do long term rental. But it´s definitely worth it, I love living here. It´s peaceful and tranquil, you live on the golf course, and it´s very quiet at night. Sometimes you can hear music from the hotels. There´s an opera singer that comes in every so often, and his voice resonates throughout the whole of the community. It´s so beautiful I usually go sit outside and listen to him.

How do people normally find out about it?
Hazel: People have been there, or the people that have vacation rental property there. The people I speak to have either been coming here a really long time and come back every year and rent the same vacation property. Or they came up on it by chance from somebody telling them about it. You don´t really find it advertised in a big way. Because it´s so small and unique Expedia and all of those sites don´t focus on it. In Playa del Carmen there´s tons of properties that they can offer. There´s hotels and packages and all inclusives. We have the Catalonia-which is an all inclusive, we have Dreams which is all inclusive and then we have the Omni, which is just a really nice hotel. And then we have the vacational rental properties.
