Do’s and Dont’s in a beach club, have the best experience at the beach!

Filed Under: Living and Retirement, What to Do

The Riviera Maya has amazing beaches, resorts and everything you might need to have spectacular holidays year after year. Beautiful beaches, balmy winters and easy access to all the attractions in the area: nature parks, tropical islands, fishing, archeological sites, etc.

If you are traveling to the Riviera Maya and get bored of the scene at the hotel’s pool full of screaming children, maybe a beach club would be an option for you. A beach club offers access to the beach and a full array of amenities, and they tend to cater for adult travelers.

There are some do’s and don’ts when visiting your local beach club, so you can plan your day accordingly.

Do

Pack wisely

Your visit to the beach club can last from a couple of hours to the sunset; the cold drinks, lively music and amazing views can keep you entertained for hours. It is important to bring some essentials to make your day at the beach even more fun:

  • Towel or sarong: Even when the beach club offers its own towels, you might want to bring an extra one in case you need to cover your lounge chair, have a dry clean towel if you decide to take a shower, or even protect the car from sand and excess water.
  • A set of dry clothes: The stay at the beach club can last until nighttime, and you might be wanting to go party or have a nice dinner. Having some dry clothes will allow you to shower at the beach club and be ready to party!
  • Beach essentials: suntan lotion, SPF lip balm, hat, mosquito repellent, and even one of those little bottles of shampoo from the hotel, in case you want to have a proper shower after your day at the beach.
  • Some cash: Avoid getting loads of cash, but enough to pay for a taxi fare, any extras you might need or even tip the servers. The most popular beach clubs will allow you to book online, so you can pay for your stay with the card online and have enough cash for any extras.

Behave responsibly

Keep hydrated: A beach club is a great place to have fun with friends, enjoy the music and have some tropical drinks. Keep in mind that the sun and the heat can dehydrate you very quickly, so if you are drinking alcohol make sure you are also drinking enough water.

Pace yourself: Drinking too much can ruin your holiday as you can get sick, pass out at the beach and get sunburn or even do something you might regret later. Make sure to keep an eye on your friends to make sure they are ok, and don’t leave behind anyone that has drunk too much.

Spend wisely: After a couple of mojitos or margaritas, you might feel the urge to invite a round for the whole bar. Overspending can affect your holiday, keep an eye on the expenses, set yourself a limit and try to stick to it. It is also a good idea to buy a package and stick to what you have paid for, ask your server to let you know when you are getting close to your limit.

Make friends: Bringing a volleyball, frisbee or football and having an impromptu game at the beach, can be the perfect ice breaker. It also helps you keep active and burn some of those calories from the guacamole and the margaritas: win-win.

Don’t

Attract attention to yourself: A Beach Club is the ideal place to see and be seen, however you want to keep a low profile. Avoid bringing expensive jewelry, bringing too much cash or a lot of expensive gadgets with you; keep it simple and enjoy yourself at the beach.

Be that friend: The best thing you can do is to go to the beach club with your friends, and have an amazing time. Drinking too much and passing out; or having your friends to check on you at all times, is no fun and they will resent you.

Ruin it for others: Social media can be so much fun, but a negative post can damage people’s reputations and emotional well-being. If there is something unpleasant going on, ask the staff to intervene and please respect other’s right to privacy.

Disappear: If you are with a group of people and decide to go for a stroll at the beach, or need to leave for any other reason, let your friends know where you are going. Also, keep in mind that leaving your space unattended for more than an hour can make the staff believe you have left and they will give your lounge to someone else.
