On May 24th and 25th, all our Top Mexico Real Estate Buyer’s Representatives completed the first ABR certification course. This course was the first step towards acquiring the Accredited Buyer Representative certification granted by NAR, a certification that not only prepares sales agents for offering a better service, but which also increases credibility among clients.
There are over 30,000 ABR designees in the USA and only between 50 and 100 in Mexico, but none of these certified agents are in Playa del Carmen or the state of Quintana Roo.
At Top Mexico Real Estate we’re working towards becoming the first real estate agency in Quintana Roo to have any ABR certified agents, and this is great news for our customers!

As Linda Neil mentions in the interview, an Accredited Buyer Representative:
- Knows how to treat a client
- Understands that the client is #1, not them!
- Takes care of the client before anything else
- Helps the client in finding the lowest price with the best terms possible
During the course, the agents discussed the fiduciary relationship and studied article by article the mercantile commission, which is the law of agency in Mexico. As a result, our agents understand what the law is in Mexico, not the United States or Canada, which is very important if you’re selling properties in this country.
There are many American and Canadian sales agents living and working in Mexico (our team is a great example of this), but being an experienced realtor in the US or Canada is not enough. A real estate agent must know how the law works in Mexico and to understand all the legal aspects of buying and selling real estate in Mexico.
For you as a customer, working with a Buyer’s Representative who knows what you can or cannot do when purchasing property in Mexico is the best way to ensure a smooth and safe purchase and closing process.
In a few months the whole team will continue with the second ABR certification course in order to receive the Accredited Buyer Representative certification.
