With pets becoming a big part of our lives, you need to be especially concerned for their safety in unfamiliar neighborhoods. Relocating abroad can bring some hesitation regarding your pets’ safety when selecting a new home. There are several pet friendly neighborhoods between Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It’s not always the humanistic environment that pet owners have to be concerned with. A few contributing factors that presents a danger to our four-legged friends are the wildlife and its surrounding terrain.
There are certain questions that you need to ask like: are there walking paths? wildlife warnings or terrain that is filled with dangerous spots? and if so, do they have warning signs or are they fenced off? Many communities have an on-site management company that can possibly answer these specific questions and more.
We would like to briefly share a few pet friendly neighborhoods.
There are two communities just north of Playa del Carmen. They are Selvamar and El Cielo. Both gated communities are fairly new and have several paved walking paths and wider concrete roadways. El Cielo is the larger of the two but both are pet welcoming with many of the residents having dogs and cats themselves. Currently the terrain surrounding the neighborhoods are rather dense in some areas, but dangerous wildlife is at a minimum. Most condo complexes do have common areas where your pets can stroll around with their owners with little to no worries.
Another pet friendly community is Valle Bambu. It is a family oriented community that is close to everything in Playa del Carmen. It has 24 hour security and lots of safe terrain that allows owners and their pets the opportunity to walk the community with virtually no immediate problems. Another nice advantage of Valle Bambu is the easy access to take your pet(s) outside the community and explore Playa del Carmen.
The Bahia PrÃncipe in Akumal is a community that is south of Playa del Carmen and offers a little more seclusion. They welcome families with pets and promote themselves as a pet friendly environment. Bahia Principe is a little further away from town, but still provides a tranquil setting for you and your pet. The roadways have minimal traffic flow and provide great walking paths. The terrain can be a little dense in certain spots, but keep your pet on a leash in those areas and your dog walking experience will be smooth sailing.
If you are planning to relocate closer to Cancun and all it has to offer, Lagos Del Sol is an upper scale community that offers a pet friendly development. Its master plan community has plenty of pedestrian friendly walkways that lends worry free access for owners and their pets. The fenced in property keeps it safe against potentially dangerous wildlife. The terrain is groomed but still offers enough adventure for you and your four-legged family member.
Another safe and very pet friendly community is Playa del Carmen’s Playacar Phase I & II. Its parkways and thoroughfares are perfect for owner and pet(s) to walk completely around the community. The terrain is very easy to deal with and the wildlife is incredible, but very friendly. There are an abundant of family homes and condos that provide a secure environment for our pets. You are also very close to downtown Playa which offers additional pet adventures.
The Riviera Maya is very accepting of pets. Their tolerance is gentle and appreciative towards people and their extended family mates. However, the responsibility to keep track of your four legged family member must fall upon you as the owner. We suggest that you introduce your pet(s) to your neighbors and security personal. If your pet gets away and decides to cruise the community without you, they will know who the dog belongs to and alert you immediately.
