If you have ever been to Playa del Carmen, we are sure you’ve already noticed the artsy side of this beautiful town. Also, maybe your initial thought was: ‘What a beautiful city with amazing murals upon murals all over the place’. Yes, you have got that right. The community here in Playa del Carmen is proud of how beautiful their town really is. We take pride in all our local artists and we appreciate viewing their work as we walk up and down Fifth Avenue.
Playa del Carmen’s world-famous 5th Avenue isn’t the only place where you can find art. You can actually find it everywhere, since it is spread out all over the city. Art speaks in many ways; and sends out positive vibes to locals and travelers. When you see a painting how do you feel? Does it make you feel happy inside and a little inspired? We know when we see those paintings around Playa, it makes you want to pick up a paintbrush and do it yourself.
We challenge you when you come to Playa to take a picture beside a mural; or even better, purchase a painting from an art vendor instead of supporting a big corporation. Buying local will help our locals produce more beautiful art. Also, it will make it easier from them to survive in paradise.
Playa del Carmen’s artsy side will completely captivate you
If you would like to adventure north on 5th Avenue, we would recommend heading to Colosio neighborhood. This artsy area is where you will see all kinds of graffiti all over the walls. It’s fun to have a photo shoot beside all the different murals. In addition, you will surely enjoy your walk even more while you stare at the beautiful murals.
Alternatively, if you’re a huge fan of Frida Kahlo, there’s an incredible mural you can see at 5th Avenue and Calle 8. This wonderful artistic work is totally worth the visit. And once you’re there, you can take a tour in the museum. Although it is a little small, you can learn important details and information about this iconic Mexican painter.
Furthermore, throughout the week on Fifth Avenue, they have numerous art and vendor nights; this is where they bring together artists, lumberjacks and many other neat creative people who make crafts and sell them for souvenirs. We believe art is a beautiful gift that anyone would appreaciate! On the other hand, you will be supporting local vendors and of course, art!
