Resident Visa – Mexico Immigration Procedure

Welcome to the world, which many of us have been living in. The best decision you will make this year: making the big move down to Mexico. With your resident visa in order and your suitcase packed, you’re ready. Moving to Mexico might take a few steps in order to get here. However, doing it properly will save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Don’t jump corners. You are probably aware that everyone gets an FFM who chooses to stay in Mexico no longer than 180 days or 6 months. Whether you travel to Mexico by air or by car you will have to pay the $22.00 fee. If you are traveling by air, the price of your flight usually incorporates this fee.

Temporary Resident Visa Procedure

If you were looking to get a temporary resident visa because you wish to stay in Mexico from six months to four years, then this visa is for you. This visa is issued on a yearly basis and can be renewed for another year up to four years. The main criteria that the Mexican consulate requires each person to follow is they must have enough funds in their bank account or prove that they have a steady income. You cannot get the visa while you are in Mexico. You must apply for it at a Mexican consulate in your home country.

Permanent Resident Visa Procedure

If you are looking at getting a permanent resident visa in Mexico, there are a couple things you need to consider. Are you looking at moving to Mexico full time? Do you have any family connections in Mexico? Are you a retiree and can prove your retirement status? Also, can you prove that you have substantial funds in your account to live a happy life in Mexico? There are a couple questions that you need to figure out before you apply for a permanent residency visa. The big question is, do you have four consecutive years of regular status as a Temporary Resident? Or do you have two consecutive years of regular status as a Temporary Resident, where the Temporary Visa was issued through marriage to a Mexican National or a foreign permanent resident?

Make sure you are aware of each of the requirements and that you figure out which visa is the best for you. It would be beneficial to hire an immigration lawyer. Your lawyer will help you to speed up this process. Also, he will help you complete the tasks needed to get your residency a lot easier and perhaps, even faster. When you hire an immigration lawyer, this will save you time going back and forth to the immigration office. When you do need to meet and sign documents, your immigration lawyer will provide you with all the details needed. For more questions on visa’s and anything you would like to know, we would recommend contacting your Mexican Consulate in your home country and discuss further whatever questions you might have!
