Do you ever wonder what it would be like to escape to Playa del Carmen and begin your day not having a worry in the world? Starting the morning out in a laidback setting is a great way to begin a day. Pour yourself a cup of coffee and relax on the patio – by the pool or at your favorite cafe. Take time to listen to the serenading birds while a gentle breeze brushes over your body. Add the morning’s subtle rays beaming across the blue sky making for a storybook beginning to a fabulous day.
When the time suits you, fix a fresh breakfast or visit one of Playa del Carmen’s street-side cafes. There is nothing like a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice first thing in the morning. If you want to start the day with a little more pizzazz, order a Bloody Mary or mimosa. In the early morning hours before people start to gain momentum, Playa seems to be mystical and filled with surrealism. It’s hard to believe that in just a few hours the town will come alive with people going about their everyday lives.
After breakfast and feeling the day start to awaken, you can walk the beach. Mid-morning is a great time to take your sandals off and feel the sand between your toes and the warm Caribbean water swirling around your bare feet. Others will pass by nodding and softly say “buenos dias†with an accompanying smile. Consider taking a moment to relax under a cluster of palm trees and enjoy the view. On your way back home, you might want to stop at one of the neighborhood markets. This is where you can pick up some fresh fruit and vegetables for later on.
Once you get back home, you have several options on how to spend your day. You can visit with friends sipping your favorite beverage, grab a good book and layout by the pool or take an afternoon siesta. If you feel up to it, take a walk around Playa del Carmen and do some casual or needed shopping. When you are out and about, why not stop at one of Playa’s many traditional restaurants and have a homemade authentic lunch. While enjoying lunch, do a little ‘people watching’. There are so many people from around the world who wonder all around Playa del Carmen’s streets. You never know who you might run into.
When late afternoon and the early evening starts to settle in, Playa’s mood begins to change. It’s time to go from rushing around taking care of errands and business to more of a festive atmosphere. You could spend the evening walking Playa del Carmen’s pedestrian-friendly 5th Avenue exploring its endless supply of eateries, bar & grills and unique shops. You might scope out one of the beach bar and restaurants and enjoy an evening on the water. There are also plenty of side street restaurants and cantinas that offer live music with a great ambiance.
After having dinner, you should consider taking a casual walk around town. There are several parks that offer nightly entertainment that includes local music, traditional dances, and ceremonial events. It’s a great place to mingle with many of Playa’s local residents and expats. Before making your way home, you might want to stop and have a Cajeta – a sweetly caramelized goat milk beverage much like ‘dulce de leche’, or a piece of Flan – an open rim filled pastry. If a scoop of ice cream sounds good, there are plenty of places to stop and get one as well.
Life in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya could be the best decision you ever make. Property is still a great buy, the cost of living is one of the lowest in North America, and life is much less stressful. If you are considering a place where you can have your own vacation home and at the same time generate income, it is well worth exploring Playa del Carmen and its surrounding areas.
