One of the most important government initiatives to benefit Mexico real estate in the past year has been the “National Tourism Agreement,†implemented in February 2011. The long-term goal is to bring Mexico into the top 5 countries for world-wide tourism, and so far, the plan has been advancing successfully, with new projects coming up as well. Thriving tourism areas such as Playa del Carmen real estate will especially benefit from the ongoing plan.

Currently, Mexico is enjoying increased global leadership in tourism, attesting both to the effectiveness of the plan, and the richness in culture, history and nature offered by the country.
One of the actions taken as part of the plan was to implement new tourist “routes†which focus on a specific aspect of Mexico’s tourism offer. Routes such as colonial and Mayan routes have brought increased attention both to Mexico’s central area and to the Yucatan Peninsula.
For 2012, new routes are to be implemented – the Cuisine Routes of Mexico, combining the rich culture and cuisine of the country; Mexico’s culinary culture has been declared a World Heritage by UNESCO.
The National Agreement on Tourism is advancing steadily and has laid the groundwork for strengthening the tourism industry as an engine for increased investment into Mexico.
The major actions planned by the National Agreement for Tourism are currently about 56 percent complete, and about 68 percent of those for which the Federal Government is responsible.

Real estate buyers and investors can also expect good things from this agreement. The new routes and the increased tourism will bring more activities, and more investment into the country, bringing increased services for Americans and Canadians who choose to live here.
Investors will also take interest in the growing tourism, especially those interested in rental income. An example of where investors may look is Bahia Principe real estate, which benefits from full and complete resort amenities, as well as from being located near the booming town of Tulum, which is part of Mexico’s (and Latin America’s) leading beachfront tourism area, as well as the Mexico’s Mayan tourism route, and the international Mayan World route.
