Mexico to Host World Heritage Convention

Filed Under: Living in Mexico, Mexico Culture, Mexico Festivals and Events, Mitch Keenan, Yucatan Real Estate

Over at The Mexico Report (an excellent source of good information of what living in Mexico is really all about), I read that Mexico will be hosting the next World Heritage Conference.  Perhaps there’s some connection between this and the large number of World Heritage sites Mexico is home to, such as Chichen Itza (within the Yucatan real estate area.)  Here’s the text:

In the framework of the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, The Mexican Secretary of Tourism, the National Council for Arts and Culture and the National Institute of Anthropology and History, in collaboration with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Government of the state of Querétaro, are jointly organizing an International meeting on tourism, sustainable development, and World Heritage that intends to build cooperation bridges between the authorities in order to implement best common practices.

The event will take place in Querétaro, Mexico from July 17 – 20 2012.

The World Heritage Convention is the most ratified international treaty for cultural and natural heritage preservation in the world. This year, on its 40th anniversary, the World Heritage Convention celebrates sustainable development and the role of local communities.
