Playa del Carmen Real Estate – New Tourist Train on the Way?

Filed Under: Cancun Real Estate, Infrastructure News, Living in Mexico, Mexico Bridges and Roads, Playa del Carmen Real Estate, Tulum Real Estate

A proposed plan for a train connecting Playa del Carmen with Tulum (to the south) and Cancun (to the north) is currently in the process of a feasibility study.  If the train comes into existence, it would bring benefits for Playa del Carmen real estate owners, as well as Cancun real estate and Tulum real estate owners.

The new tourist train would connect to places like Tulum

The Spanish company Ferrocarriles de Vía Estrecha (Feve) has signed an agreement with the state government of Quintana Roo (which includes the three communities just mentioned) to cooperate in a study on the feasibility of the rail system.  The agreement also includes the sale of equipment or technology transfer.

The agreement covers collaboration on strategic development, operational management, staff training and technical assistance, all aimed at improving and optimizing the operation of rail services.

The tourist area of Cancun and the Riviera Maya in the state of Quintana Roo, is one of the most important tourist regions in Latin America and is considered strategic for Mexico’s national economy.  It is also one of the leading destinations for American and Canadian expats.

The purpose of this agreement is to achieve a transportation system that ensures the mobility of visitors to different destinations and attractions safely.  It can be used also for staff working in different locations, and that has low emissions.

Such a train would also benefit American and Canadian residents of the area providing a very comfortable means of transportation to and from the airport and various attractions nearby.

    Hi Grace!

I’m glad that you and your husband get the chance to spend more time down here! It really is a very beautiful part of the world. We’re excited about the possibility of this train since it will add to the ease of transportation, which is already a strong point, “without compromising aesthetics” as you say – hopefully even improving it!

What a fabulous idea. Leave it to the people with innovative ideas who are developing the Riviera Maya region with attention to the needs of residents and tourists without compromising aesthetics.
My husband and I are looking forward to spending more time in this beautiful part of Mexico.
