One of our most favorite Playa del Carmen neighborhoods to pig out in is Little Italy! Little Italy is associated with some of the best known restaurants in Playa del Carmen and perfectly situated in downtown close by to many preferred downtown residences.
Here you can find amazing Italian restaurants serving up amazing pasta and pizza selections, as well as Argentinian steak houses, Mexican fusion and even great sushi. There are some excellent restaurants and bakeries off the 5th avenue and in town. Have a sweet tooth? How about a Nutella pizza? Yes, that actually exists and you should never go through life without having tried it at least once. Today, can be the perfect day to do so. Ask the local Italian restaurants about this incredible dessert!
Try going off of 5th Avenue! There are some incredible food selections on the streets leading up to 10th and all the way to 30th Ave!

Shangri-la is one of the most charming areas of Playa del Carmen, in the area of 38th street. This is part of the newer up and coming section of Playa and has plenty of choices to keep you fat and loving it. From cozy cafes, to contemporary intimate restaurants you can find great food and desserts with a beautiful outdoor atmosphere. Shangri-la reminds me somewhat of a promenade, showcasing a variety of dining options in a relaxed and comfortable setting.

Taste buds takeing action in Downtown Playa del Carmen
Let’s move a little but south on 5th shall we towards downtown? Of course the deliciousness does not stop in Little Italy or Shangri-la! In fact, moving forward you can also find amazing restaurants of the same genre plus much more! You can find everything from upscale New York City type dining to a more laid back feel. In the mood for a great burger or perhaps a chili dog? Just walk a few blocks up to 10th and 15th and there you’ve got some incredible fast grabs!
If you walk to 10th you can find typical Mexican snacks such as tacos, quesadillas and tortas (the Mexican Hero, Hoagie, Sub, Grinder).
If you are a lover of nightlife, this area is your after hours food heaven! While the 5th Avenue restaurants may quiet down after midnight, the 10th Avenue steals the show for those late night snackers!
