The federal offices of the Secretary of Communications and Transportation (SCT Secretaria de Communicaciones y Transportes) will be preparing several announcements in early March regarding the the licitation (BIDS) for the construction of the Tulum International airport to service the growing Mexico real estate market known as the Riviera Maya Riviera Maya is located just south of Cancun and runs along the Mexican Caribbean Ocean including the new European popular tourist destination, Playa del Carmen. The Tulum Airport news update was announced publicly by Gina Patricia Ortiz Blanco who is in charge of the Quintana Roo State Government offices.
Administrative work and bureaucratic procedures have been started , cession of Government lands and Ejido agreements are in process as well. Strong communication in the different Government levels are taking place to assure the legality of the land.
The exact location of the Tulum Airport is 65 Km from the Cozumel Airport, 102 Km from Cancun s airport and 15.8 km inland from Tulum With an area of 500 hectares, this zone will be home for 3.5 km long runways that will be 45 M wide and will comply with all international airport regulations. This airport will also benefit the Akumal region and boost the tourism and real estate sector.
