I went out this morning to help a client register and pay his annual car taxes TODAY… in July Yes, little late as in most of the Mexico real estate regions the car taxes are due in the first three months of the year January, February, March After this first quarter, most municipalities will charge a penalty.
Now one of the first activities that new Mexico home owners realize is shopping for furniture Soon after, searching for wheels to move around for exploring Some property owners will purchase a condo or home in a downtown area where public transportation is readily available either being taxis or city buses or combis. Not sure how to spell “combis” but these are what I call midget buses They used to be little Volkswagen mini vans. These practical little mini buses are seen in all parts throughout the central cities such as Puebla, Toluca, Cuernavaca and of course… Mexico City The VW are very popular here in Mexico because one of their major manufacturing plants world wide is located here in this country outside of Puebla, Pueble Today you will see nissan, GM, and even some Chrysler mini vans being used as public transports The Puerto Vallarta real estate region, Cancun, Mazatlan and various other larger resort cities will have public transportation available in practically all points of the city so new property owners in these cities wont find an urgent need to purchase a car when first arriving Whereas those people who buy property in smaller more remote Mexican towns or villages, an automobile will become an important item on your shop list.
After living in Mexico a few months or a few years, you will probably find a growing curiosity to explore other nearby “colonias” and other nearby cities The question comes up; Do we buy a Mexican car or do we import a car from the United States /Canada and bring it down to Mexico This question we address in our Mexico Real Estate Blog if you search up “Mexico Automobiles” Now if you purchase a Mexican automobile, Car Registration and taxes are due on an annual basis As mentioned above, taxes are due in the first quarter of the year.
This afternoon, we paid the annual car tax and updated our registration sticker When our bill appeared, it showed that a nice size penalty was applied because of the past due and late payment date After closer review we discovered a couple of errors and were able to establish a much better rate TIP; Experience, especially in Mexico,is an important commodity This message I constantly try to send out to new property buyers in Mexico, “find yourself experienced Mexico real estate agents, it will save you thousands of pesos, and in real estate,it will save you thousands of dollars!
until next time..
