How to Save Money through Mexico Retirement; The Cost of Living

Filed Under: BB Kits, Cost of Living in Mexico, How to Save Money Living in Mexico, Mexico Cost of Living, Mexico Retirement

From the very onset of choosing a Mexico retirement, you  are choosing amongst thousands of other Americans and Canadians who have discovered that living in Mexico is not only warm with access to an excellent quality of life, as well as rich culture and history, but also much less expensive than retirement back home.

The first way in which you will find very significant savings is through your Mexico real estate purchase.  In addition to a wide variety of properties which offers something for every budget, all property choices will be significantly less than similar choice back home.  Items such as maintenance, improvement (renovation, expansion or adaptation for retirement living), taxes and utilities will also be considerably less on your Mexican retirement property.

The cost of living in Mexico is also significantly lower that back home.  The savings start with the very basics.  Items like groceries, clothing and furniture will present savings on a day to day, month to month and year to year basis, just making that much easier to keep on budget.  While food costs less, it is also easier to find very fresh fruit and vegetables, freshly caught fish and other items at surprisingly low prices.  With free trade and NAFTA having taken a firm hold on Mexico, international food items and household products can be found for very similar low prices at stores like Walmart, Price Club, Sam’s Club.

A very important basic item for retirees is healthcare.  Mexican private hospitals have been evaluated to give service on par or better to those in the U.S.  At the same time, healthcare is usually between 50 and 70% cheaper.  It also offers Canadians an advantage, since waiting times for processes are virtually non-existent.  Medicine prices also tend to be lower, with high-quality generics available at very low prices.

With the kind of savings offered just through the basics, retirees will already feel their budgets eased considerably; this frees up more funds to live retirement the way it should be lived – in warm weather, with plenty of enjoyable activities!

Mexico’s broad range of retirement activities are also available at lower prices, making it easier to do more. Sight-seeing, nature parks, fishing, sailing and much more are available in many of Mexico’s top locations and at very accessible prices.  Discount airlines make it easier to travel to other parts of the country.  Most locations also include modern conveniences like movie theaters and excellent restaurants, again at lower prices.  Professional golf courses are likewise become more common; the Playa del Carmen area, just south of Cancun, has actually been named “Latin America’s golf capital.”

Still not sure?  Take a little vacation down to Mexico, and ask a TOP Mexico agent to give you some tips on how to enjoy Mexico the most at a low cost; you won’t be disappointed, and in all likelihood you’ll be ready to start your retirement in Mexico sooner than you thought – and save money doing it!

For vacation rentals in Playa del Carmen, I would suggest staying in a private condo in the Natz Ti Ha condominium complex located just steps away from the beach! Rent a condo and experience Playa del Carmen like a local.
