While many start to look for retirement homes in Mexico a year or two before retirement there are also a large percentage of people who start the search well before that! This is actually an interesting point to think about. There are many benefits to   looking for your retirement home well before your retirement.
Take your time looking for deals!Â
If you are searching for your home too soon you may start to feel the pressure since you want to hurry up and start enjoying Mexico right at the beginning of your retirement. Starting your search early means you have plenty of time to wait for good sales and price reductions. Patience comes easier when you aren’t in a hurry to pack up and move!
Consider Preconstruction!
Preconstruction projects such as Hacienda del Rio in Playa del Carmen or Prana in Tulum can be a very attractive opportunities for someone willing to buy before retirement.  Since it will be a while before you actually live in your home, you have time to wait for a property to be built.
Buying your home in preconstruction phase means that you are getting the best price and will see an increase in value by the time the project is complete. By the time you have retired and moved in you can already have made a return on your Mexico Real Estate investment.
Also, preconstruction will usually allow the flexibility to pay over time during each phase of construction which means you aren’t obligated to have all the cash up front at the time of purchase.
Start making money off your property right away!
It is very common for someone to buy property, say, 5 years before they actually want to move there. During the time that the property is not being occupied, the owner can rent it out and start earning rental income right away. So even before you retire you can put a few extra dollars in your pocket.
Home customization!
Sometimes we can’t afford everything we want to do all at once. Making your dream home can be a process but very doable on a budget. If you buy your home well before you want to live in it, then you have plenty of time to make improvements and customize so that it is perfect by the time you move in!
This also means that you can buy a home or condo for a bit cheaper and then construct and improve your home very economically; as opposed to buying a finished product design.
Get accustomed with your soon to be new life! Â
If you have purchased your property sometime before you intend to live there, full time, you also have the added perk to use the property for your general vacations. While you are renting out the property to vacationers you can block out some personal time for yourself! Of course it would make sense that you would want to enjoy your home in certain times of the year!
Buying ahead of time, and spending periodic times of the year in your home in Mexico, can be extremely helpful in getting yourself familiar with the neighborhood, getting to know you neighbors, becoming acquainted with the culture, and making new friends. By the time you actually settle in you have already started to establish your life.
